We are thinking that we may want to spend Christmas in Samur in France.

Can anyone confirm that you can park alongside the river without any troubles?

We stopped at the large campsite on the island a few years back when we were tenting and seem to remember a few motorhomes parked up alongside the river.

Anyone with more recent experiences?

I guess it depends whether the Loire is in flood: it has a huge range from low to high. If so, the paved embankments could be under water.

Try contacting the office de tourisme for advice.

If you do go to Saumur, visit the tank museum. It's fantastic, and will give you an idea of how people lived in motor homes. for want of a better word, when they were being shot at for real, rather than just in words...

It really is great.
