Returned 2015 after many years of kids and other expenses!
For Android I have just started using Setting Profile Lite. Works good.

Mine is a sony but the settings may be similar.

Start by looking in the sounds/alerts menu.

Mine lists sounds for email, message and ring tone which are all controllable withing the menu.

I have the 3mini. Swipe down the home screen to reveal the 'speaker' Symbol. Tap it twice so it goes to silent. All rings and notification sounds should be silenced but alarm will still ring.

Do you just not change the e-mail profile ring tone to silent \ none?

If this is for your gmail account do the following:
  • Open gmail
  • Hit the menu button and select settings
  • Tap the account you want to turn notifications off for
  • Tap on Ringtone & Vibrate ("Sound & vibrate" after Gmail updates")
  • Tap on Ringtone and select Silent, then tap OK
  • Hit the back button until it takes you back to your inbox. No more audible notifications

For the standard email client do the following:
  • Open Email
  • Hit the menu button and select Settings
  • Tap the account you want to turn notifications off for
  • Scroll down to Notification settings and tap on Select ringtone
  • Select Silent and tap OK
  • Hit the back button until it takes you back to the inbox. No more audible notifications

Not sure if it is a feature on your phone(I have it on mine - so does wife) but an alternative option may be the 'do not disturb' feature. This allows you to set a time during which alerts are not sounded. eg. 22.00 to 08.00. That way you are not disturbed during the set period.

I had a A3 new in August to stop having everything tied up with Apple. It all looked good initially but what a disaster not as easy to use as Apple then a virus appeared called Vodaphone waste of time stressfull to say the least. When this virus could not simply be removed I destroyed the phone went back to the Apple iPhone but a I am considering getting the old Nokia out of the drawer!

We have three Galaxy Tab4 in the family, phones are separate issues and not something we use for emails etc.

We have found the Samsungs to be very good indeed, and with built-in GPS we can run Sygic or another SatNav application without needing any add-ons. They also have WiFi built in, but NO phone function.
