Came across this news item from the USA and thought what a great idea and worth sharing..

The RV Care-a-vanners are people from all walks of life who travel around the country in their RVs and volunteer their time for Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the United States and Canada.

The Care-a-vanners participating in the build this year are from Texas, Florida, Connecticut, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. Typically the RV Care-a-vanner program will provide volunteer labor to 175 Habitat homes each year. The Chaparral Family Campground of Salem is graciously providing free RV camping for all of the Care-a-vanners again this year. "This is the second year the Care-a-vanners have been to Salem. We are grateful for their participation which allows us to build three houses this year," said Alice Jackson, president of the board of HFHNCC.

Lunches, breakfasts, beverages, ice and worksite necessities have been donated by: Annabelle's, Arby's, BB Rooners, Bob Evans, Carman Builders, Ezio's, First Presbyterian Church, Giant Eagle, Gene's Drive Thru, Guilford Lake Grille, Kendrick's, New Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe, Pizza Hut, ReStore, Ricky's English Pub, Sparkle, Subway and Walmart.

Marti Wendel, board member said, " I am always impressed with the outpouring of generosity from the business owners of the Salem area."

The Care-a-vanners are volunteering their time on the future home of the Glenn and Mary Randall family located at 247 E. Fifth. St. in Salem. They will work everyday for the next two weeks building walls, setting trusses, shingling the roof, installing doors and windows, siding, insulating, hanging drywall, etc. This year the local Habitat affiliate will also be building homes in Columbiana and Leetonia.

Anyone interest in building homes, working with the ReStore, volunteering with organizational tasks or applying for a Habitat home, is asked to contact the Habitat office at 468 Prospect St., Salem.

Habitat for Humanity of Northern Columbiana County, a United Way Agency, is a Christian ministry that partners with families in need to build simple decent houses.

The houses are then sold back to the partner families at no profit with a zero interest mortgage held by Habitat. In addition to paying a mortgage, partner families must volunteer their time to help build a home for another family and then their own.
