Hello,

This September Sue and I will be setting off to join a C & CC escorted tour of Morocco for the month of October. We have toured France many times over the years but never Spain, and we plan to allow ourselves a leisurely 2 weeks either end to get down to southern Spain and back , maybe even longer coming back, but beyond a wish to revisit some old haunts on the Atlantic coast on the way down (Ile De Re, Arcachon) we have no clear idea of the best route to take and would appreciate the views of experienced travellers. We will probably take to overnight ferry to St Malo around the middle of September, and return to the UK in mid November (no strong preference for route back). Any advice on either the best routes or places worth stopping off would be very welcome. The actual stay in Morocco is 1st to 24th October.

Cheers, Gary

Try the Via Michelin web site. once you have entered your start and finish point you have options.

I find a combination of recommended and economic produce the best route at least cost.

Using a road map and the sat nav, then produces a route that can then be linked to ACSI sites or Spanish aires.

So far on several trips we have avoid the Madrid route, mainly because we are travelling early December and it can be very cold.

We are on the CCC tour aswell so look forward to meeting you.

We have travelled this route alot and we prefer the N10 toll free down to Spain.

Then its either down via Salmanca (eastern side), Madrid (thro the centre) or we often go west to Barca across the mountains (great fun) and then tour the coast of Spain south, turning right at La Manga.

You can easily drive La Manga to the meeting point at Casa's (San Rogue?) in about 4-5 hours.

We have done the toll route in France but its not cheap.

Hope this helps.

Can't recommend a favourite route, but a nice stop off is Aranjuez with its historic palace and classical architecture and gardens, around 25 miles south of Madrid with a first class train link for shopping, € 6.80 each return last Feb.
Another place to visit in the same area and about 25 miles away is Toledo, a beautiful historic town . :thumb:
