Looking for route Amsterdam to Port Grimaud via Luxemburg and border of Germany. Also looking for overnight stops on way down including interesting places to visit.
Assuming you dont want to pay for tolls or campsites en route. Go through Holland and Belgium to Luxembourg and use the aire at Dudelange. Very well used 3 or 4 kms from the motorway and there are 2 petrol stations on the way back to the motorway to fill up with the cheap fuel.
Strasbourg is not a great aire but is a great stop. Eguishem near Colmar is a great stop but just dont do this if youre jsut stopping without staying as its too good a place to miss.
Presming now you dont want to go through switzerland to pay the vignette and then italian tolls then look for the slight detour that goes through les rousses (which has several aires) and stop on the way down to switzerland and enjoy the view of Mont Blanc and the alps. Truely stunning. Then Nantua which you have to pay at but lovely lake (shame about the town). Annecy if you can get in is to jonny banana. Take the Gap road down to Provence and ensure you have a fire extinguisher on board for your brakes or stop halfway down the mountain to Gap and enjoy the scenery. Sisteron has aires but try not to use the one nearest the tunnel as that gets busy and noisy. You should then be going through Provence where Moustiers Lac de st croix sillans la cascade are all unmissable. Google them for days out if youre camping
