I moved to north Norfolk in 1983 To get to London meant trailing through the market towns of Wymondham, Attleborough and Thetford, many an improvement especially with the Elveden bypass recently.
Before my time all the traffic from London for Cromer came through Red Lion street in Aylsham. it must have been a nightmare.
Working in Malton in the 1970's saw all the Scarborough traffic coming through the town, and being born and raised in York..............enough said.

What do Funsters remember as HELL? What needs improving now?

Bypasses don't always help.
Scarboroughs Osgodby bypass now brings traffic even faster to the town's first bottleneck...the University traffic lights on Filey road (A 165)
I often see stationary traffic half way along the bypass.

When Noah was a small boy I went from Essex to Cornwall on a scooter along with half a dozen others.
We went through London, Camberley, Basingstoke, Andover, Exeter, Okehampton, Launceston, Bodmin and finally Newquay. Just over 12 hours, with the modern roads I can now do it in a car in 11 hours :D

Well remember the crawl from London to Norfolk with Mother in the 70's, A10 through Ware and onto the A11, Red Lodge, Gt Hockham, Watton through Swaffham and Dereham and of course it was nearly always on a Saturday and even worse on race day through Newmarket.

Remember taking Denise and her grandmother up M1 shortly after it opened if you went over 30 mph she complained I was going to fast anyway on M1 100+ she never complained it was a Worsley 6/110 so she sat in back like a queen whilst I watched the fuel gauge going down

It is time the A66 from Scotch Corner to Penrith and the A1 North of Newcastle to the Scottish border were upgraded to dual carriageway or better still motorway. They have been under discussion since I passed my test in the 60s. Bits and pieces done but large sections of two way traffic on narrow roads.

We're heading that way in mid June on the way to Shetland. It's a slow old drive.

Same with the A64 between York and Scarborough.
Been under consideration since the sixties at least and only a couple of sections upgraded to dual carriageway.
Main trunk road to Scarborough from the west but still not important enough even after many road fatalities over the years including my younger brother in 1982.

The Lincoln by-pass as a belter, it sends traffic what seems to be 40 miles around Lincoln, and every mile is a roundabout with traffic jams in all directions.
