I am busy ripping a big collection of DVD's I bought Link Removed.

I have done 405 DVD's so far but still have 400+ to do. It is taking me ages due to the fact I only have a Core 2 Duo CPU. I can't do them during the day as it slows the laptop down too much so batch them overnight.

I am looking at getting a SandyBridge I7 based laptop and using the QuickSync technology to speed things up dramatically. Currently it is taking between 3 and 5 hours per film. With this tech it is supposed to be half an hour or less per film.

Has anyone done this yet and if so, is the quality of video as good as say Handbrake transcoding?

PS: I am not doing this for pirating DVD's. I need to keep all my DVD's on hard disk due to storage limitations and power consumption. It's also more convenient.
