I just received an email from the CTC inviting me to join them camping for the grand depart, it looked well-organised with activities and big screens, and we were thinking of going to watch anyway...

then I looked how much a pitch would be...

HOW MUCH???
:ROFLMAO:

No thanks.

Has anybody a cunning plan to go and see it? I hadn't thought much ahead other than would like to go, bu I doubt it will be like in France with campers lining the Yorkshire Dales...

What a rip off!!!

You can camp at the side of the road in France and the camp sites there wouldn't do this.

I despair of this country and greedy organisations.

Hi Rita

Have you read all about this event or just read and believed the headlines posted by somebody who did not bother to give us all the facts.

This event is billed as http://www.velofest.co.uk full response from the organiser is available on this thread and is worth reading.

I will add I have no connection to this event or company but I don't like to see people trying to run down somebody who is only trying to run a legitimate business and add a little extra value to a unique event like the TDF in Yorkshire.

Ooh that feels better.

Let's have some reality here.

1. This is a specialist organisation putting on a special event - as the organiser has explained in detail already on this thread - not a camp site doing something out of the ordinary.
2. Does anyone really think that motorhomes pitching up en masse, willy nilly, all over the Yorkshire countryside is desirable?
3. This is a major, one-off, event for Yorkshire and it requires sensible planning and control. As I've pointed out a couple of times there are plenty of places where camping is available at normal Meet/THS rates. The prices charged by a specialist organisation putting on an event appealing to its own audience are totally irrelevant given the availability of alternatives for those without that special interest.

If anyone thinks that they can park on the roadside or verge during this event then N.Yorks Highways have already said very clearly that no parking on road or verge on the route or any access roads to the route will be tolerated. What a welcome from my favourite Council!
On a positive note the route will be brought up to standard for the event and hence become the only roads in N Yorks without potholes.
Cheers and welcome to Yorkshire:ROFLMAO:

Be very, very careful. Sounds like a quick buck, collect all the deposits then
F L Y A W A Y. No doubt some will stay but they don't deserve ANY trade at those rates. It put's a new slant on rip off Britain and the visitors from Europe will love us for our chances of making a fast pound from sport. Is it still called sport or has anyone invented a more apt name.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I guess you have some evidence or inside information to back up this allegation. Perhaps you would like to share.
