Reversing camera (1 Viewer)

Have now purchased a reversing camera system (second hand) and would like the advice of you funsters as to the best location for the camera - high or low central.

Mine is centrally located as high up as possible. It increases the range of the view on the screen. I can clearly see both rear corners of the van and quite a distance beyond.:thumb:

Not sure if it was low down it would give such a clear view.

Ours is high, looking down.
It gives the best gauge of distance to a motorhome-crunching obstacle!

You can see the two rear corners of the motorhome in the picture.

We are also able to reverse the picture on ours and we find that the view is orientated to the direction of travel to make it all a bit more intuitive.

Depends on the type of camera, really. A good quality, wide angle directional would be high and central. A budget or fixed angle better in a lower, shaded position at the sacrifice of seeing the corners.:thumb:

I was going to fit a 2nd as my screen can be split with the 2nd one as a side mirror type for the blind spot, I only seem to use the rear view one for making sure my trailer and race car are still attachedoh:

Rear view monitors are quite cheap - this can watch the rear, whilst your standard monitor splits between two side cameras!:thumb:

Pretty much! There are monitors that replace your rear view mirror, it's a mirror when off, a monitor when on.

That will take care of what is behind you (and can be left on) and your current (dash?) monitor can run a 2 camera split down each side - usually on top of each mirror looking back. These are not just handy for driving, but for seeing who is beside the van when parked up which is good for security...a sort of 'all round' vision.

Though I have had people put them in some strange places......one wanted them on the roof, so he could make sure he would clear bridges.
