If they are lighter YES but it would not be a lot and you need to make sure the alloys are unto the load rating of course.

I would think it is not worth doing for that reason alone. The alloys would be quite heavy if they are the correct ones for the van. If you want them for the aesthetics as well then maybe. Just don't curb them as then they look worse than the steel ones.

I'm just changing my alloys back to steel as they all seem to leak a bit and they need a complete refurb at only eight years old.

I`ve seen prices for refurb; as low as ÂŁ35 per wheel.? How does that compare with a full set of steels?.

I've seen steels for as low as ÂŁ50. However after a refurb will alloys still not leak ?

Weight saving will depend on the wheels in question, some may be lighter, others not. I have two sets of alloy wheels for my race car, one set are seriously lightweight at about 8 KGS each with tyres, the others are closer to 18 KGS with tyres. Return costs will vary according to the level of work involved, our business neighbours are Wheel Perfection and alloy wheel return is there entire stock in trade. A set of four wheels, stripped, grit blasted, straightened as required and powder coated are around ÂŁ250 depending on straightening/dressing work required.

Properly done with new valves. No.

If it is JUST leaking, I have actually done it myself on an Old Shogun. Careful cleaning of the rim and sealing faces, is sometimes all that is required, but you need the facility or ability to get the tyre off and back on!.

I had the same problem. Some alloys are porous and really do leak very badly. I've researched the possibility of changing to alloys but the disadvantages are to much for the cost.

Thats not a bad price if they remove and refit the tyres

I can get a set done for ÂŁ120 but I have to get tyres removed etc

My Hymer wheels are alloy and a bit heavier than the standard steel ones , they have to be a lot chunkier than the steel so that the extra aluminium has to weigh more ,, just so that you can have some wheels that seize onto the hubs??? Why bother just buy some plastic hubcaps.. On my car I have had to buy two more alloys to replace the pothole damaged ones.

Because of alloy porosity I had two alloy wheels skimmed to try to prevent air loss.

Ended up fitting tubes to them. Job done.

Tubes should never be fitted to alloy wheels.
I suppose that’s what you get if you go to QuickFit then.

However, I never had any problem after they did the job.

When I specced my van, the alloys were an 800 Euro option for a saving of 2kg per wheel.....I went for the steelys

Steel wheels need to have the basic ugliness nor wheel trims.

I went the other way... replaced ugly alloys which were nothing but problems, with nice new steel wheels .. dont understand why they fit them on utility vehicles like a moho ..
