I've just bought a replacement hose to go between the regulator and one of the gas bottles in our old Hymer. The reason I bought it is so I can fit a French gas bottle in the system. The new hose has printed on it "must be replaced by 2021". The same warning is also on the packaging. The old hose just has a date on it. 2003. Does this mean it should have been replaced by 2003? If so how many of you actually take notice of this?

My understanding is that 2003 will most probably be the manufacture date and it's advised to change after 5 years of first use..
Guess they have changed the markings so it's a bit more fool proof.. (y)

Some expert will confirm soon.. :)

There were some stainless hoses on display that didn't have a "replace by" warning but they were longer than I wanted and about twice the price of the one I bought. There was another one with a 10 year life and it was a bit cheaper but again a bit longer than I wanted.
Looks like I need to replace the other hose to the UK bottle as well when I get back to the UK as no doubt that is marked 2003 also.

A long time now
I was advised by habitation inspection technician that rubber gas hose should be replaced every 5 years and each hose should be marked with manufacture date . I have a stainless steel one now and that has a 20 year life.

2003 will be the year of manufacture and as previously stated it is recommended that this type of
hose is replaced every 5 years.

We have an annual inspection of our gas installation at our base in France as a requirement of our Insurance.

As part of the annual check/service the hoses are replaced at five year intervals. In view of the low cost it seems a sensible precaution.

As everyone says if it doesn't say change by then the date is the manufacture date

the red hose should be changed by the date on it or 5 years BUT do check it every year
we had a red hose with a manufacture date printed on it of 2010 and by 2011 it had perished and had started to leak gas so it got changed STAT

The hoses here have a date on which is when they are valid to & must be replaced by.& it is 5 years , or less depending on when purchased.
