Just back from a couple of weeks up the West Coast of Scotland and we have never seen so many rented motorhomes. On one small site near Arisaig there were vans from six different companies, even a tartan one. This market must have really taken off though the way some of the folk treated the vans was amazing. Strangest were the 'Spaceships', never seen them before. Anyone else seen these?

It has to be a useful way of 'trying before you buy' for those who are interested. Also it provides a means of motorhoming for those who are not in a position to buy, store, maintain one. I don't think many people would want to entrust their own family m/h to rent out or lend so you can see why the popularity.

It fills the catch 22 gap for many families.

Most 'average' families are not in the position to own/maintain/store one until they are older, and the kids have grown up.

The best time to have motorhome holiday is when you have young kids, can share the adventure with them, and leave them with fond, lifelong memories.

The rental market fills that gap nicely!

We did this for a week in Scotland before we decided to buy. Its a great idea - but expensive - about £1000/week + £400 Insurance. Firm tried to sell us a Moveo afterwards, took that as far as visiting them to see what they were. Seemed dodgy. They buy the vans at bulk cost, pay no VAT and then after a year or two sell them on at a £3500 profit on their cost plus they have rental income (Gladstonebury can be £3000 a week).

They also do a scheme if you have £35000 lying around they will give you 10%/ year for 3 Years and then give you your money back.

Like many have said " If it looks to good to be true..." But there seems to be some takers.

Cripes! They saw you coming! That is one of the highest I have heard of. Insurance should be included as it costs them no more, they are obviously out to empty pockets rather than supply a good service.

All were about the same cost - what we didnt realise was that insurance was extra and then coll damage waiver and extra drivers etc etc. All this was not pointed out until we had comitted and booked flights to Edinburgh.

Anyway - It taught us a lot and convinced us of a layout we wanted. Bought a Nexxo T660 and have not had to swap it because the layout is perfect!

Money well spent in the end:BigGrin:
