Remove Sealant Around Shower Tray (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone

It's clear the sealant around the shower tray needs replacing. What's the best way to remove and reseal?
Is it a case of get the old off and then a trip to b&q for some bathroom sealant or is it more complicated?
Any tips/ advice welcome. A massive thank you in advance.

Remove as much as possible by careful use of a Stanley knife, then apply silicone remover, I use the cheap stuff from screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-sealant-remover-100ml/88987# but I'm sure other brands are available, clean off all residue then apply new sealant.

Try removing it with a sharp paper scraper -clean then mask up and reseal with

Smooth off with a wet finger and pull off masking tape

Will that stuff resist mould and mildew etc?

I used one of the unbranded ones on my first self build and was plagued by growths. Stripped it all out and used a branded bathroom sealant which had anti..... and it was much better.

Sikaflex has proved excellent.........after you have sqeezed a run around the joint take a spray gun, and "shower" the sikaflex with white spirit and then use your finger to smooth it all into place

Much easier to remove with a proper tool, there are many available:

As others have said then use silicone remover and a good quality silicone sealant.

when replacing a rooflight, it does a superb job of removing the silicone without damaging the surface. It's also good when wetted to champfer off the new silicon
