    Hello
    newbies first post
    be gentle
I had been quoted £357 on monday to remap a citroen 2.0 hdi diesel engine 50,000 miles, before I joined and noticed the advert on this site for the same company
Is there any discounts negotiated with black code and as important has anyone used them as i am wary spending that sort of money without recommendation
    thank you
sorry dont understand the tags and trackback

Seems expensive for just a re-map..
    Average I would have expected £200 - £250

I would ring around first and get more quotes..

Never heard of the company before, even though they are in the next town to me at Stafford.
You will probably find the sub the work out to other local guys and take a slice... Just my opinion... I can get sub £200 here in the Midlands but as my van is fairly new I dont want to get it done just yet..

This is where a new chip for the ignition etc is fitted (or the current EEPROM is "rewritten) - commonly referred to as a re-map....as it the ignition timing, fueling, turbo etc etc is remapped to produce more power, torque and quite often better economy.

It exploits the "safety margins" built into to mass produced engines by their manfacturers. In days of old we would "blueprint" an engine to the original spec by dismantling and re working its innards - VERY expensive!

Always use a reputable dealer :thumb:

    Another satisfied WOW customer here.

Had it done at the muddy Northwich show last year, and after a few thousand miles on it, I'm very happy.

Strange reading this. A neighbour of mine has just recommended the following mapping box:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chip-tuning-Diesel-performance-box-PEUGEOT-BOXER-HDI-/310623214319
He fitted this to his brand new Hyundai (not this specific mapping). He went to have the car serviced and it took approximately two minutes to remove and put back in it's box. No history of it having been fitted and he says the mpg has improved by a few miles per gallon. Hills between here and the West Country can now be taken in a higher gear and around town he finds less gear changing.
Just in case he was talking round objects I asked his wife what she thought of the change. She said the engine was quieter and faster.

They have dealers who will come to you. They interrogate the database back at WOW headquarters, and the required remap is sent to the dealers laptop which is plugged into your diagnostic socket. It can be modifeid for whatever parameters you want - fuel economy / improved torque / higher top speed etc.
It can be undone if necessary, unlike a rom change.

basically a 'map' is a program built into the engine computer (ECU/PCM) which tells the various fuel (and ignition on a petrol engine) components what to do and when to do it.

a 'remap' is just a term for rewriting the computer program to produce different characteristics/parameters, thus increasing torque or BHP (or both) or even 'softening' it to use less fuel at the cost of slightly less power/torque.

I paid £390 for a seperate 'black box'. Fitting took 5 minutes and can be removed just as quickly. The supplier quoted 20% increase in power & torque and this seems to be fairly accurate. I can now stay in 5th gear on the M5 and southern part of M6. Mpg is certainly no worse. Very pleased with my purchase.
