Since 2007. But no more.
I can remember when Motor Vehicles used a + Positive earth system.
I can also remember when they changed to a - Negative earth system.
I was told that it was to do with chassis corrosion, which was a result of a + Positive earth,
To switch from one system, to the other, the Generator had to be "Flashed," which, either knackered it, or changed it's polarity.

There are plenty of connection options. I like these batteries because they offer the traditional connection post but a threaded stud in addition. Even then there can be too many wires but this can be overcome with the addition of such pictured

That looks like a proper job, when I bought our 5'er the electrical connections to the battery consisted of lots of wires stripped a couple of inches, twisted and trapped under the main battery terminal.

The transformer still is connected by goodness knows what under what is probably half a roll of insulation tape.

The main feed on the pickup for the electrical braking system was connected by twisted wires and cheap insulation tape and the run was held in place by more of the tape at intervals, very shoddy but we had left the country by the time I found this out and it was simpler to rectify things myself.
