is the beam formed by the lamp or by the reflector? Reason? well if the beam is formed by the lamp then I can just change them for 'flat' dip lamps instead of messing around switching them from left hand to right hand dip everytime we go abroad.

8 years, but had caravans & Tents before that
Hi

Its the shape of the lens not the lamps, even the housing for the lens is a bit
different for left or right hand drive vehicles, the lamps are all the same.
So you do have to mess around with deflectors.

"you may get away with adjusting the lens set up if you have housings with a lot
of adjustment, but you need to know what you are doing and it is a bit fiddly, and
you would need to put them back on return to UK.":thumb:

is the beam formed by the lamp or by the reflector?

With a single bulb twin filament the dipped beam is off centre, so there maybe a bulb with them both in line so the beam just drops.

Maybe.

But with twin bulbs you're stuffed.

Tis neither the bulb, reflector or lens alone responsable for the beam, but a combination of all three a fault on either can throw the patterns all over the place

yup, I can rotate the housing and make it dip either way but its a pain in the arse to get to the required screw so I was just wondering if a change of lamp to get a flat dip would work.

the tester cant have been too fussy about beam direction....

the majority of bulbs, H4, H1 etc will only fit in one position because of the dip cut-off beam pattern.

they do that so you cant get it wrong.

 reading wiremans post you mean rotating the bulb holder...not the bulb itself. :thumb:
