Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We always wave , and sometimes flash ,but dont always get a reply. Id say 7/10 times.

Infact sometimes we just get a look.
Propper eye contact and a look.

Its usually a very beige wearing , or matching fleece wearing type of elderly couple with a grumpy looking look , when it happens.

We just say in unison "miserable buggers" and wait for the next chance to wave and flash.

Ralph-n-Bev!

Couldn't agree more!:thumb:
I willl always give a friendly wave......even to the "matching fleece wearing" ones. I've tried to stop my hubby from "flashing", but he's got into the habit of it now, it's too late!
But just what have you got against elderly couples???:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Nothing at all , truly.
Which is a good thing considering we spend most weekends socialising with people over 60 :ROFLMAO:
In fact we've just joined the motorcaravanning section of the CCC last weekend.
As we've been out with them so many times , we thought we would. That way we know we have somewhere to go , all through the winter months without resorting to commercial hardstanding type sites..
There were 40 plus motorhomes on the cattle ground last weekend in Hawes . With a pie and pea supper thrown in all for £7 a unit per night. We looked around but didnt see any other Smiley fun badges BTW.

It just happens that the people that dont wave , ( to us ) tend to be the grumpy looking beige wearing frumpy elderly pensioner type ! Am i digging deeper:Blush::ROFLMAO:

Now I find that it's the middle aged couples who tend not to wave.

If anyone waves at me (pink haired muppet in a flowery van) and I don't wave back, I'm not ignoring you I'm just yelling at the dog/changing the cd or something equally tedious

We've only been in Scotland with the mh so far, but the majority of people have waved to us!:thumb: Will take note when we go south of the border and see how many waves we get back, that should be interesting:RollEyes:

Hi
I wave to others as we pass, not on motorways it's too far across and normally to busy, so only wave in relpy. Pete :thumb:

I have always wondered if there is a 'Four Lane Seperation Rule' for waving.
ie., you can wave on a Dual Carriageway (two lanes from each other), but on a Motorway (four lanes apart) you don't!
Or is it because peripheral vision diminishes with advancing years?::bigsmile:

If I see a motorhome I wave, if there are too many lanes then the other driver may not see, nothing lost. No problem See one wave and carry on. Job done, unless you are Bev of course then carry on and flash I assure you we appreciate it.
Maybe we could start a new trend, hee hee

Another thing!

When we had our VW T25, we shared waves with all other rear engined-VWs, VW T4/5 owners ignored us.
When we became coachbuilt owners, we shared waves with other 'white box' owners but the rear-engined VW crowd ignored us. So did the VW T4/5 owners.

Who do VW T4/5 owners wave to then? Miserable gits!::bigsmile:

How about a Motorhome Fun smiley face but on a white 'hand' sticker or even better on a flat plastic hand that's on a spring attached to the windscreen so if you don't wave 'it' does ::bigsmile:

Jaws: DILLIGAF. Brilliant statement! Should be the National motto.

JJ: Surely you have "people" to wave for you?

You are, of course, quite right John... but every now and again one likes to leave it all to one side and take a short break. At these times I like to give my [STRIKE]servants[/STRIKE] people at the estate time off (without pay of course) and travel incognito...

waving

We love it when people wave, on a long drive it really makes a difference to our mood, we end up moaning when no one waves. Happy campervaning to everyone.::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

TBH, we always acknowledge another van, if they don't us, we consul ourselves in the fact that its either a Hire van, or it's a Hymer and we waved to them before they waved to us, thus breaking all the rules of the hymer owners club.[/QUOTE]

What's wrong with Hymer Owners Paul, we have one now and always wave to motorhomers!!

Many years ago I had a small cruiser boat on the Thames. Loved the waving thing but there was a definite hierarchy going on. Canal boats = most friendly. No-one waved to hire boats. Big flash expensive boats generally only responded to similar. Then few years ago I bought a campervan and read about the m/h wave. So imagine how disappointed I was when return waves were few and far between...but I still kept trying for the 4 years I had it  Convinced myself it was just that people didn't realise we were an Autosleeper campervan until it was too late as not the most obvious campervan design, but actually I think its a bit like the boats. Now have coachbuilt and on first trip out I was delighted to get a wave from 1st m/h we saw even from across the other side of the motorway :thumb: Excluding motorway I think I've only had one m/h not wave back ... although we've only had two trips away so far...but campervans don't seem to wave back. Now my little girl has caught on to the wave and is loving spotting other m/hs to wave to. So if you've spoted a m/h with a waving mummy and a waving little person it might be us ::bigsmile: If you see us and don't get a wave though please don't be offended....it won't be intentional.

Keep waving

No, you can't give up waving! You'll end up as miserable as some of the caravanners that pass us on the road..........

What do you mean "end up". I am already there.
Im thinking of changing my user name to "Billynomates".

I cannot believe it !!!!!
I actually got a wave tonight, nearly hit a parked car waving back. That has revitalised my enthusiasm for waving.
:thanks: who ever you are.
