I agree with what others have said.

If it were me I would do two things.
1. Go to a welding specialist, get them to give the van a good looking over (underneath) and ask them to provide an accurate estimate.
2. Get a qualified motor examiner to give you a full report.

When you have this information, you can formulate a plan, if the vehicle is in otherwise good condition, you can persuade Marquis to pay for the repair (with or without legal assistance)

Or if the report is damning set about rejecting the vehicle and recovering your money.

Obviously the pictures only show a small area, so I can't tell if this is just a small localised area, but it does look pretty shocking. the sort of thing I'd expect to see on a vehicles from the 60's - 70's.

I have recently sold a 2004 A Class Hymer on a Mercedes , and the chassis looked as though it had just come out of the factory. So it's not unreasonable to expect a vehicle to be in far better condition with this.

A final thought if it cost around £500 for a report, I would think that money well spent if you can get your £30000 back.

Good luck

Having done a quick search, I can only find an Auto Sleepers Luxor. I think that was a rebadged Mobilvetta made in Italy. Is there an owner's club that might give some advice as to whether you have a 'typical' problem?

I have just subscribed so this is first post.
My friend has a 2002 Mirage 5000 which he bought privately at 1 year old. He has just spent £5000 getting the front end repaired which included a repair to the steering. It was rust to all the wheel arches etc but as far as I know it was all converter related and nothing to do with base vehicle. Presume you can PM me on this forum so if original poster wants to contact me I will check with my friend and put them in touch with each other.
Repair was carried out in Glasgow and he was provided with a quote but with the proviso that they couldn't be sure until they stripped out some of the rotten metal. They were contacted and had to go and see the level of rust as it was far worse than first anticipated and had to give their approval for work to continue with an increased quote. He has over 100 photos detailing the extent of the rust.

Just a thought but Marquis and floods go well together in the same sentence. In 2010 we very nearly bought our first van, the 2007 Starspirit from a small one man firm up north who was selling it on behalf of the owner at around £32k. When we lifted the lids in the floor we noticed the beginnings of corrosion in the battery locker and it even extended to the base of the seats in the cab on closer inspection. TCALSS (look it up) the van had been written off as a Grade C if I remember, so not worth the Insurance company repairing. We discovered eventually that the owner had bought it at little under retail value, not aware of who from but the van had been in the Tewkesbury floods in 2007. Marquis lost their entire stock but somebody picked the vans up and were trying to make a killing.

Oh and there's a thread Broken Link Removed

All sorted!!! Marquis have even agreed to cover the cost of the new MOT as well. We had our garage check everything else out and this really is the only issue, he seems to think the suggestion of the drainage holes for the windscreen causing the problem pretty likely. Also, as everybody thought the new quote was nowhere near the original one and we should be picking it up on Saturday so we still get to go on holiday :D(y)

Thank you so much for all the helpful suggestions we've had to help get it all sorted ;)

Well that's a big thumbs up for Marquis then, always glad to hear of a happy outcome.

Just as an aside when we bought from them we got very good service too.

Whilst it is good that this is being sorted out I'm afraid I can't agree with the praise for them ... this MH should NEVER have been sold in that condition in the first place ...:(

You are the person with all the knowledge of "who said what and when". No doubt you can piece this together and come to your own conclusion as to where the neglect lies. If you then think you can demonstrate to a third party that your synopsis is persuasive then take it to small claims court. Your amount is less than £5000 so your only downside is court costs. You will find that your opponents employ delaying tactics and buck passing but the issue of proceedings in court brings the matter to the front of their attention.

From what little I know you might claim from the retailer or the warranty company.

I have a sneaky feeling this is something to do with the massive leap in popularity of motorhoming
As the movement grows there are more and more dealerships about.. The big boys have started to feel the impact and are finally realising a poor customer relationship will NOT generate more sales when there are so many other places to go to nowadays !
