Tells me it's a sellers market for starters and maybe you undersold?

It does mean that we are all holding onto valuable vehicles. I've had mine for nearly 6 years now and, scouring the markets, is worth about the same as what I paid for it all those years ago, although probably not if I traded it in:)

Got to remember a couple of things though, when we sell to a dealer we're effectively selling it 'sold as seen' the dealer, on his sale needs to factor in both his profit margin and the value of his guarantee. On top of all that, some Funsters expect to get at least 50% discount off the dealer asking price so they've got to mark it up! (y) :)

Our 1975 VW camper sold in 2004 for exactly the same amount we paid for it in 1997.

Our 2005 Coachbuilt MH traded in for half of its original list price after 11 years of owning and running it from new.

My 2009 car is worth about 15% of its price when new.

Relatively speaking, campers do hold their value.

We're on our third van in 14 years. To date we've lost less than two grand.
Current van is worth a few grand more than we paid (about b/e if px'd), so probably in profit overall :)

Both previous vans should be worth at least what we sold them for, unless they've had careless owners...
New prices have risen so fast, combined with ever increasing demand, it's no wonder that the used values are so solid.

Motorhomes are a great investment if you buy wisely.

What you've got to bear in mind is that the cost of new motorhomes will have increase a lot in 10 years so the cost of second hand ones also goes up ...

We bought a new Cathago recently in the late summer (Lucky us) we had a Kontiki 669 owned from new for 7 years with 44000 miles
As we got such a great deal on the new MH the dealer was not really interested to buy the big beast so late in the summer, so we advertised the van and as usual contacted by a few dealers who would give a cash price.
Time moved on so decided to sell to a cash buyer dealer. Now you may think I would loose a fortune. At the time the dealer front price for similar vans with much lower milage was £40000 managed a cash on the nose of £ 33500, bearing in mind I was asking private of £38000 I took the hit and picked up our much discounted Carthago

The dealer drove away my loved van. I have kept an eye on it on their website and there it sits in the middle of February for £ 39000 some 8 months later. On top of that from the pics he has changed the fridge freezer, as far as I was conserned we thought there was nothing wrong with it also maybe dealer talk he said there there were spots of damp to repair
So every one is happy a main dealer got shot of a late 2016 model Carthago , they made a buck. I picked up our dream van at a price that I was very happy with, a trader now has a nice van on his front that I know a new owner will love

Did I loose money. I don't think you can price devaluation. I used a van for 44000 miles over seven years and thus equates to £25000 over that time £3500 per year holidays and usage. I am happy

Nearly seven years ago we bought a 1994 2-berth low-profile Compass Calypso. We have taken good care of it and we were delighted to read an article in a recent MMM magazine where they feature older motorhomes. The expert was reviewing the same model as ours but three years older i.e. 1991. He was saying that they are a sought-after model and that it was extremely good value at the price .... which was £1,000 more than we paid for ours over 6 years ago!

Our Mo-Ho has power steering which the 1991 version has not. We've also got after-market air suspension and cruise control. So, theoretically, ours would fetch far more if we were to sell it.

We bought a 1991 Elddis Autoquest 320 for £9,500 and a couple of months later met a couple who'd bought a virtually identical one (year, condition, mileage etc) from £14,000 from Clownhills o_O .... just over a year later we got £13,325 as a PX ... we were well happy! :D2
