or if you have a little more time------use the 'national roads' -----we find these much more interesting to drive-------we have driven about quite a lot in the Algarve this year and the only bit of 'toll road' we have used is the free bit before the Spanish border on the A22 (the last 2 exits in Portugal going to Spain are free)

hi nigel i was thinking of asking what a toll is . i know you do pay on a bridge near lisbon but thats normal. tolls from calais to portugal is nil isnt it.

What a mess that system is. All that unemployment, why they just couldn't build a couple of booths, issue tickets and charge everyone, result = jobs and income as everyone pays. It seems to me that in the main, the only people paying are the Portuguese. Every other nationality is enjoying the empty roads and paying nowt. oh:

Meanwhile as the Portugese avoid the tolls and the traffic is now increasing on the 'Road of Death' which had become much safer, it's a certainty that the death toll on this road will now rise again.

At least the Road of Death has all those roundabouts at the junctions now... before they were a different kind of "chicken run"...

We have had quite a few campers going to the junta fregsea [post office] willing to pay for the tolls, and they wont take their money, they say they dont know what they are suposed to charge them, they to are fed up with the agro, and feeling stupid because no one knows what they are suposed to be doing. Madness
