If anyone is looking for a different motorhome experience over winter in the Algarve from the crowded aires and wild camping, check out Quinta da Fornalha. It is a lovely organic farm run by local Portuguese near Castro Marim. They sell amazing products in the shop. We can definitely recommend the hand harvested salt, fig truffles, carob and almond spread, fig chutney – yum! If you purchase from them, they will happily let you stay overnight in their parking area (N37˚11’56.2”, W007˚28’58.6”). We found it a lovely spot to visit, a bit like staying at a France Passion site, and it was great to support local organic producers. The train is a short walk from the parking, so if you want to take a break from driving, you can catch the train towards either Faro or Vila Real de St.Antonio. Around the farm is a great area for biking, lots of lovely farmland to bike around with gentle up and down hills. They can only fit 4 campervans in their parking area, which for us was a welcome relief from the very busy spots in Altura and Castro Marim (see our pic).
