Well i am 'finally' in the market for another motorhome in the next month or so. I went to the motorhome show at Glasgow but didnt glean a great deal from there as not too many vans on show, so am asking the experts.

I am going to rent this van out so nothing too old.

It must be an automatic as that's all i drive. I really want a rear lounge as that suits Poppy, myself and charlie-brown. Although i did see 2 singles beds with adjustable backs on one van which was good too. Also need a double drop down over cab.

Under 3500kg

Like my lovely mercedes hymer 'built to last' would be wishful thinking too.

Budget 20-30k ish

Anyone got any recommendations please? Must meet all 3 criteria though! ;)

Thanks guys.

5 years, feel free to ask me about the Carado!!
The word Automatic immediately narrows your choice:(
I am pretty sure that rules out anything on a Ford based chassis, until around September 2016 onwards when auto became an option. Pugeot I dont think are yet supplying auto based chassis (but check that, my knowledge is from 2013) FIAT & Merc based vans have the option of a not overly frequently found auto box.

Hi Pinkie

We met you in Maroc many moons ago - our dog Jess got on well with Charlie Brown if you recall. Don't know if this fits the bill although its a little over budget. Its on a Merc, its automatic and its a rear lounge, and its only done 14000 miles.

Ken & Lynda

or what about another A class Hymer on a Merc?

or a Frankia

There is a manufacturer near you, they do rear lounge layouts and may know about second hand ones. :)

@Vanman produced a spreadsheet of motorhomes under 3500kg which may be of help. I am not sure whether it is in the resources section. If not it is worth sending a PM.

Thanks Canopus, it just does nothing for me im afraid. Actually physically putting myself, 15 year old and a labradoodle in that, there is no room!

The rear u shaped lounge layout, under 3500 kg and automatic are all immovable factors.

Anyway, as my old hymer isnt available to buy back i think i should just buy the van i want.....and that is.....

An old mercedes hymer s550, rear lounge, automatic, built to see me out....(if i can hang onto it this time ;) )

And just to upset you purists, i might paint it pink this time!!! ;)

I guess im just a hippy at heart.

I just need to find one! x

This is probably a better buy than the Airstream Pinkie

Hi Canopus,

Yoou are right of course, BUT it is over 3500 kg and a manual gearbox so discounted.

Actually i had looked at it on ebay and it just doesnt give me the same rush of love that the old mercs do. Dont really understand it myself as i drive 'like an italian', foot to the floor and i really should 'act my age' and stop wasting fuel. This time round perhaps. .. .. ;)

Anyway, its the s550 for me, pre 1995, automatic. Poppy and i still cannot talk about our old van, seeing it go was SO sad, in the words of that famous film (almost!) "we will always have Morocco".

Just been viewing the other thread on here looking for "the u shaped lounge". It mentions the hymer b534....useful. Not mercedes but i guess it doesnt matter unless i was buying pre 1995.

Actually I-m sure on the thread by someone from Aussie that they posted on last night a link to a Dutch site, in English , & there was a Merc Hymer on there. I will try &find it.
