Hi is the a company that has some way of transfering a photo to vinyl? Thought it would be nice putting a few pics of where we go on the van.

Companies that make vinyl promotional signs for commercial vans would probably do it as a one off but it wouldn't be cheap. Might be worth asking at whichever garage does your servicing. We had a plain adhesive vinyl patch custom made to cover the skylight panel on our car's roof when some of the paint started to bubble and flake. It was our local MoT guy who suggested the solution.

Main problem of course is getting the stickers off when you part with your vehicle. That can be a real bugger.

Vinyl comes of quite easily with a hair dryer / heat gun.... Biggest problem is usually the glue/gum left behind
The best solution to get the gum off is isopropinol or methylated spirit.....soak wipe and repeat.

Had our sticker made at a sign writer fir the front top of our van. Went to a sign writer that does work on vehicles. It is now 7 year since we put in on and it has not faded at all.

The best car sticker we have seen was in Greece near the Albanian border. A German motorhome had a photo of there dog in a window put on the side of the van. We had to look twice as it looked so real. Good luck and get the sign writer to explain how to put them on. Not hard if you know the tricks.

There is also magnetic paper - its a white sheet that you can print on - obviously depends on you having a metal surface to attach it to. :xsmile:

Your right many thanks I can do it myself, thanks.

You could do it yourself but you shouldn't. The reason is that your inkjet printer at home use water based ink that isn't colour fast. It will look lovely when you print it and first stick it on your van but it will start to fade within weeks and will be gone within a year especially if you spend a lot of time somewhere sunny.

Getting a proper company to do it will obviously a bit cost more, although probably not as much as you expect, but they will be using the correct kit and the correct inks for the job.

This is part of what I do for a living so my post is based on experience and industry knowledge, not just my opinion.

Perfectly true and important. I was in a similar business and over the years have tried most sprays and lacquers etc. Nothing is as good as solvent inks. The best ones are relatively scratch proof as well. First question to ask anybody is 'do you use solvent inks?' Second is 'Do you use vehicle vinyl?' That will come off after a considerable period without damage, although I've no experience of Motor Home body paint finishes.

If you want to fit graphics onto a surface that has no creases it is very easy.
Fitting on creases as in a wrap use special vinyl that can be stretched and set and i would recommend having these done by a pro.

Usually a surface printed graphic will have a mask applied over it to protect it from application marks.

Here i will explain in a step by step guide to applying vinyls on non creased surfaces.

1/ Thouroughly clean the area to be vinyled, using isopropinol or methylated spirits.
2/ Using masking tape, stick graphic to area and set it in the position required.
3/ Once you are happy that the graphic is set to the position you require put a strip of
2" masking tape over the centre of the graphic giving it a 6" overlap top and bottom.
4/ Remove the tape holding it in position but leave the centre one.
5/This should leave the graphic free at either side.
6/ Take the graphic on one side holding it away from the van.
7/ Remove the backing paper on that side using a craft knife being care ful not to cut through the graphic or the van.
8/ Holding the graphic in one hand and a credit card in the other rub the vinyl onto the van from the centre at the making tape out towards the side. Using vertical strokes pulling the card over using overlapping strokes.
9/ Take off the masking tape through the centre of the vinyl.
10/ Holding the graphic in one hand remove the remaining backing paper with the other.
11/ Rub the graphic from the centre pulling the credit card downward at an angle putting pressure on it to full expell any air.( do not push the card)
12/ Graphic should now be stuck fast to the van.
13/ If there is any bubbles in the graphic use a pin to burst and rub the surrounding area to make it stick fast.
14/ if the graphic has a protective mask on it now is the time to peel it off.
15/ peel it at a corner and fold it on its back close to the van and pull.

Do not pull away from the van.

Job done.

or brake cleaner like the van sales co's do.

Op just load your images/photo's etc; on a usb stick & the sign makers can use that. That's all I do here if I want any. If you want to use ones from the internet then they'll normally have stock ones to choose from.
I had a couple, 1m x 75cm, done ( handed) cost me 74€. Two small
ones of Lorca castle, 55cm x 15cm were 15€ .Most companies here do lots as most trucks have multiple versions of Jesus, Virgin Mary , etc. Photo's of the kids blown up are very popular .
