Am off to France on Wednesday and although I rarely need to phone home my traveling companion would like to phone home regularly,so which is the cheapest way to do it.
I seem to remember France telecom used to sell phone cards, but don't know if this is the cheapest way.

If your with Vodafone they do a Passport which means to make a call costs 75p and thats it. The time comes off your inclusive minutes. So If I make an hour long call from France or a 2 minute call it costs 75p

Not sure about other providers, they probably have a similar offer that you can subscribe to before you go.

I have a Vodaphone Passport account and use this for texts. I use Skype at WIFI hotspots (like Mc D's) or campsite free WIFI points.

There is a fee for phoning somebody from your Skype to their mobile or landline but I believe the fees are very reasonable.

You can get the call costs from Skype.

yes Dave, you need to put credit to your account...easy online job but a minimum of £10
none expiring providing you dial a number at least once every 6 months. otherwise you lose the lot after 6 months

on the skype 'dashboard' simply dial the number you want, including the country and area code, and thats it.

i had a need to ring abbey from san fransisco....20 min skype call = 17p :Eeek:
