Just seen this on another forum.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has extended permitted parking hours, see Link Removed It says for walkers but many motorhomers are walkers so it applies, & they have rates for larger vehicles which I take it would mean the likes of MH,s.

A step in the right direction?

a step in the right direction Yes, but im sure the 'no sleeping in vehicles' signs will follow the new rates...if they arent in place already.

Note that the press release does say that it will enable people to "break their journey overnight at some of the National Park’s hotels, guest houses or bed and breakfast businesses" and that the NPA has come up with the facility so that people "can leave their vehicles for longer periods".

It is obviously not aimed at allowing overnight camping in motorhomes. Still work needed to show the NPA that responsible camping ought to be allowed.

The current details show the vehicle sizes

Car parking charges

All car parks are pay & display. Daily charges are currently as follows:
Cars / Motorcycles / Minibus (up to 16 passengers)
£2.20 for up to two hours
£3.50 for over two hours

Vehicles requiring more than one space (caravans, vehicles with trailers etc):
£4.40 for up to two hours
£7.00 for over two hours

How long is a 16 seater minibus?

Maybe MH's are standard sizes for these car parks.

They still have a long, long way to catch up with Dawlish Warren where we are now.

Here you have to pay the daily charge, £1.10 in low season and £3.30 in high season for all day parking. Overnight is free , from 1800 to 0900.

Notices at the pay points specifically state that motorhomes are allowed to be occupied overnight for 48 hours in any one period. No faffing about, a clear statement that leaves no ambiguities.

Lets hope we don't get the idiots back this year who dump their cassettes in the bushes

Still a good start for the Dales let them see that we can use their facilities responsibly and maybe they will relax their regulations even more.

A Woosh bang
I contacted the YDNPA for clarification on overnight parking, this is the reply :

Dear James

Thank you for your inquiry I would just like to confirm that the occupation of vehicles overnight (sleeping) is not permitted. The purpose of allowing overnight parking is for those wishing to use other accommodation in the area or to leave their vehicles whilst exploring the dales for more than one day, visiting friends etc

I hope this information is of assistance.
