Hi, Search for sites suggests it is possible to overnight at Queens Drive Park and Ride, and that you have to call the staff on arrival to get the barrier lifted.

Anyone any experience?

The barrier is there as a deterrent to stop people doing what you are suggesting. If it was freely available to be 'lifted' as you infer, the site would be full of jippos, as would many other public car parks.

I lived about 4 miles from Queens Drive from 2005 until last year, and in all that time I have never seen motorhomes in there.

Queens Drive P&R is accessible for daytime motorhome parking by asking staff to raise the height barrier, see Link Removed under Site Location.
The council doesn't even allow parking overnight at P&R sites though, let alone camping. See the link given above (which is the same as the one on Search for Sites) which says, under Overnight Parking, "This park and ride site is intended for daily use only and we cannot give you permission to park overnight in any of the sites and if you leave your car at anytime of the day or night, you do so at your own risk. The site is locked at night and any vehicles requiring release out of hours are subject to a release fee."

Thanks, I have tried to amend the entry on searchforsites and submitted it but unsure if it will be accepted. The entry as it stands clearly says it allows overnight parking, but as you rightly pooint out if you click through to the council website it says the opposite!

There is small campsite at Thrumpton (Manor Farm) which is about 5 miles out on the A453 from Queens Drive. Alternatively you might wish to contact Beeston Marina (Tel: 0115 922 3168) who may be able to help you.

Search for sites was mentioned in a thread a few weeks ago, a thread in which the site owner took part.
I pointed out at the time that if one stayed overnight in the two entries in this area designated as "Off site parking (Wild camping)" one ran the risk of being fined but he hasn't altered them.
The entry for Marina Back car park at Whitby actually contains a reply to a site user from the council noting a similar ban but it is still on there as "Off site parking (Wild camping)".

Dropped Beston Marina an email, as was thinking of going up that way shortly. Got a reply, stating they they are only a residential site.

No help to the OP, but for general info:

I was investigating the Queen's Drive P&R recently as a place to park for a (daytime) visit to Queen's Med. It's not permanently staffed, so although they will lift the barrier for you if there is someone there, they can't guarantee it.

The only Nottingham P&R without a height barrier is Hucknall, because the buses use the same entrance. I've never been, but a look on Google maps suggests that it might not be easy to find a suitable slot for anything much over 5m long.

Its Redhill Marina and the old git who owns it is a t**t. He would charge those who moor their boats there for the air they breathe if he could. East Midlands Parkway station is much closer only 5 minutes away.

He is a millionaire landowner and was moaning on East Midlands TV recently, that HS2 would decimate his business. Tough titty.

There are a lot of people, me included, who'd like to wring his chuffing neck. He owned the water main and the access track to a property we used to own and in our title deeds it said he had to maintain the track. He took the money every year and added RPI for inflation, but did very little in the way of upkeep. The condition of the road was atrocious and was very difficult to drive a high side motorhome down - full of craters. He used to deliver the road bill and water bill by hand cos he was too high to put a stamp on an envelope.

Simon - I wouldn't even think of trying to get into Hucknall P&R - it's always packed.

That's what I thought - so we didn't! :xsad:

Jane was taking part in a research trial at Queen's Med, nothing traumatic, so didn't need support on site. So I dropped her at the door & cleared off elsewhere for an hour or two, parked up, did a bit of work, then picked her & wheelchair up again outside the main entrance when she rang to say she was finished.

If you have to visit again have you looked at the medilink bus service? You might find it easier to park up at City hospital & get to QMC that way (I've seen a coachbuilt in the purple carpark). Parking seems less traumatic at QMC since they opened the tram stop & if you are not arriving around visiting (2pm onwards) you may be able to get in the main carpark (3, I think). Or ring the car park office & speak to them, see what they suggest, they were very helpful at City.

Thanks @Debs . I did look at Medilink, but didn't think of parking at City hospital. It links up with Queen's Park & Wilkinson St P&Rs but both those have height barriers, so I ruled it out. I'll have a look at the parking space available at City if ever I need to go into QMC with Jane rather than just drop her off, so thanks for that. Jane's senior MS consultant is based at QMC, so we do have to go from time to time, although not recently other than to help with this trial. This was the first time since getting the bigger van.

I'd need to double check, but I think there are height barriers on QMC car park 3. We were there at 12.30pm & there were queues to get into the main disabled car park, the drop-off area was full & so was the other disabled car park round the side. I double parked in the side one to unload & then had to double park outside the main entrance to load Jane & chair back in again about 3.30pm.

I did speak to the tram people, who run the P&R as well, but not the hospital. Might pick their brains too next time.

If you do find you need to park at a hospital get in touch with the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) as they may be able to help. A few years ago our car was off the road when Jill had a hospital appointment so I contacted them to ask if it was possible to access any of the car parks. It wasn't but they arranged for us to be met at the security office from where somebody escorted us to an area where we could park - and it was free :)

Thanks - good point & not necessarily who you would think of to solve a parking problem.

@TheCaller Simon, I mentioned QMC carpark 3 as I've seen work vans in there. I'm there on Weds with Lauren so I'll have a proper look. It's such a hassle when it's busy as there's no way of by passing the queues once you are on site.

City hospital parking & general access is so much easier. I appreciate it would be a bit of a hassle for Jane on the bus but it does lower right down for access & doesn't take too long.

PALS is a good suggestion - I've dealt with a few at different hospitals, City have been helpful.
