Too late Canterbury P&R closes at 8:30pm. I think you can still park on the Esplanade area has been reduced but still a few spaces.

Edit: Read it as sailing in the morning missed the August bit.

Still use the esplanade, park opposite the Great Western Hotel and pop over for a very nice dinner and cold beer, only a two minute drive to the port next morning. Suits us. :D:D

The Camping and Caravan Club site at Canterbury is very well placed and we used it recently on a trip to France. Site even gives you menus for a couple of local takeaways who will deliver to site should you feel particularly lazy on arrival. Good clean shower block, and of course you can leave full of clean water (if that's how you roll) and with empty grey and black ready for your holiday :D

Why overnight in Dover? Get a late crossing to France and overnight in Calais or Dunkirke,,,you can sleep in and still get an early start the next day,,,BUSBY,,,

You have to park outside the gate if leaving early and clean water at park and ride

Thanks @denisejoe , didn't know that (either about parking outside the gate or clean water at PnR). Useful stuff (y)

£6 now if you arrive before 4pm or £4 if you arrive after 4pm
This clarifies the charges.

If you want total peace and quiet,@Simon Meadwell, you could try St Margaret's at Cliffe. There is space at the top end of a cul-de-sac, a bit rocking in a very strong breeze, but we like it.

P & R is my recommendation or Marine Drive after 6pm (free) until 8.00 am but that's possibly incorrect. At a push, there are quite a few lay bys that the Police suggested on the Dover Road.

As we've got kids with us, and want somewhere where they've got some space to run around in safety, the Canterbury P&R is not so good, neither is parking on the roadside. So we went for a local CL. This one is basic and cheap but in a nice location, gets good reviews.

I wouldn't worry about the "Caravan Club" bit - we're not members and have never found that to be a problem with CL's anywhere.

There is a CL at Bob Akehurst's Clipgate Farm Barham. They have water etc and you will be made welcome there , it is off the A20 about 8 minutes. I keep my plane there on the airfield.
