Local council contractors have wrecked our motorhome.

At least the driver had the decency to come back and own up!!!!

The whole of the back and the bathroom will need replacing and thats just our non expert opinion.

So much for half term holidays and the other plans we had

GUTTED !!!!!

If anyone knows of a lunar specialist who can repair this - if the independent assessor says it isnt a write off please let us know

Thanks xxxxx

Really sorry to hear that.

I hope you get sorted and the council pay up.
I know it's no consolation when your plans have just gone up in smoke, and God knows how long it will take to put right, so ANY plans are now on hold.

If it is a write off the long slog to find a replacement will seem like an eternity.

Chin up and hope everything works out for you. :thumb:

Thats awful.

Hope you can sort it out.

No reason why the Councils insurers shouldn't pay for you to hire one until its repaired.

Sorry to hear that Gail, hope you get it sorted.

Not sure if you can get Lunar parts that easy. (I think i remember someone saying that, it might be hearsay) but if might be better to find out while negotiations with insurance and council etc.

Hugs

Sorry to hear this Gail  how old is the van ? Anything above 10 yrs and I think they will write it off as spares will be a problem plus matching up bodywork will be nightmare

Does your insurance cover a replacement Vehicle while you
are off road.(bearing in mind that yours was/is a specially adapted van)

or compensation?

Sorry Gail
I forgot to add were both sad to hear it
and wish you all the best in sorting it.

Really sorry to hear this. I hope you get it sorted promptly.
If it was me I would be tempted to push for a write off. Vehicles never seem to be the same after an accident this bad

What bad luck. I know how you feel.Three weeks into a tour of Germany a kindly blind German managed to rip the side out of my Auto Cruise and write it off. I had driven off the road onto a grass verge to avoid him but he was good, he still got me. Good luck with the repair. BUSBY.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry Gail. I just knew you should have changed your username when you got the new van. I suspect the insurance company will write it off. make sure you remove gas bottles etc or you will lose them.
fingers crossed for a swift result.

Jeeeeeeeez!!!!!!
and I thought I had bad luck! This is the second time for you guys isn't it?

Good luck, keep your chin up and, if it's any help at all:Doh:, think on this..........

Quite a few (all right, a LOT:winky:) of years ago when ffi' & I were in our 'vanning infancy, we had a 1979 CI Travelhome on a Transit. She was an absolute b*tch, broke down at EVERY outing, cost me 2 engines and a small fortune. We very nearly gave up on 'vanning all together we were so heartbroken. Might sound melodromatic but 'vanning was everything to us and to have such bad luck with this pig of a van, we really began to think, "are we really meant to be doing this?"
We flogged IT off cheap, worked like hell and saved all we could for 12 months before we started looking round again and we're lucky enough to find the best van we ever owned, a 1983 Elddis Autostratus.
Many years and quite a few different types of vans & RV's later, we're still out here, still loving it and immensely glad we didn't just throw the towel in.:thumb:

Good luck guys, stick at it, your time will come. :thumb:

Good point. We took most stuff our of ours when it was first hit but after it was eventually written off (and several miles away) we remembered a few minor items. The insurance company will probably have it taken to a local dealer for assessment so tell them that if they do write it off to let you know before they shift it so that you can check you have everything.

What a truly rotten thing to happen. I don't wish to be a Jobs comforter, but insurers try to avoid spending out more than they have too especially local authority insurers. They will attempt to value it based only on the s/h price of the base vehicle and ignore the cost of the conversion. A bit of research on prices of equivalents will prove useful. Maybe Peter at Johns Cross would be able to advise. Was the vehicle a council one or a contractor?

The initial offer we were given was low so we agreed to send in details of similar vehicles advertised for sale on the Internet. When I spoke to someone else a few days later I received an apology because the initial offer was based on the base vehicle, which he said should not have happened. Given his attitude and the tone of his voice I believed him, especially when we were then very quickly able to agree a settlement figure which was perfectly acceptable to us.
