My guess would be a common Shelduck... the secondary flight feathers are I believe rust, and about the right size to match your pic. :Smile:

Just spotted your first post on this thread, as you can see we are a different lot. :welc:

Thank you Carol in Wales and Ponyboy in Tasmania for lovely welcoming messages... I was a bit concerned I had been altogether too straight, and was about to be expelled from the site, banned and my name blackened forever. I shall look forward to finding out what else is going on around this forum... haven't joined one before - so a complete newby. AND I shall find something I can be light-hearted about - whereas bird identification is serious business! :nod:

I'm confused and going to bed now.... this was found in May .... and we still don't know what it is but it may explain the missing funsters who have been eaten by it.
