Not long enough!
Hi, newbe question- do you empty the on board stored water on your return if you won't be using for another week, or do you just keep it topped up?

Any advice gratefully received:thumb:

I fill up my fresh water tank with water of the beaches (not salt water) This is strictly for washing up and showers. I bought sealed 8 litre bottles from supermarkets. I have 6 of them. 3 sit in the well of the passenger door, 3 tied with a bungee rope behind driver seat. The empties I keep to refill when ever I can get clean drinking water from Gas stations, restuarants and private homes. I always empty out all bottles when I get home and refill the same day before I leave on a trip. When a bottle looks knackered, I replace it when I next pop into a supermarket.

When setting out I put a minimum amount of water in my tank then on site add what I should need during stay.
I do not carry more water than I need , every excess gallon is excess 10 lbs to pull around, plus constant renewing keeps water fresh.

Empty,, on return fill up when you go away.. :thumb:

If possible leave your drain open and put a bit of a nylon tights or stockings over the outlet to let a bit of air in and stop any creepy crawly`s going up..:thumb:

algae will grow quite quickly with just a dribble of water in the bottom of a sealed tank,
Especially if it is warm.

I don't don't empty the tank and fill up before I leave. Never had a problem even if it's been left for a month or so, but iused to put sterilizing tabs in and now I have a Nature pure water filter so I don't need the tabs.

Hi Sue
Before I return home I turn on both taps and drain the fresh water tank
into the waste water tank.
I let it slosh about on the way home then drain it.
It helps to get rid of food particles and bread crumbs which might smell
later on.:thumb:
And welcome.
Jim.

I just leave the water in the tank. It might be weeks before I use water from it again.

As I mostly 'wildcamp' I always leave home with a full tank and fill up anywhere I can.

I use a filter jug for any water I cook with or drink.

Haven't had a problem yet.

Water Tanks

I drain all tanks when we leave a site and refill with fresh upon arrival at the next.
We use the fresh water for everything.

IMHO Carting water about is just a waste of energy .

if you have the black plastic tanks like cak tanks sell its ok to leave the water in. there is something to do with black plastic keeps water fresh for ages. anybody that was in the army should remember the black plastic jerry cans for water .it even as a cleaning effect.the best thing for cleaning water is silver .if you get a filter make sure it as a silver inlay. thats why cowboys put silver dollars in there water bottles. also one of the reasons for wishing wells the owner got clean water and rich. today in the water industry aluminium is used as its quite good for cleaning water as well.
