We are no longer Newbie's.
We opened our Omnistor 4m sunshade for the first time at Newbury and noticed that it rolls out from the bottom i.e. under, not over the roller, is this correct as I could see other funsters had shades that were running out over the roller?

It must be correct otherwise the lug you insert the pole into would be on the top.

Not necessarily, domestic roller blinds can be either under or over with the mechanism in the same position, with this shade I just wondered if someone had run it all the way out then continued winding which had wound it back in the wrong way. I think there may be a "stop" which prevents this though.

I would suggest you are right, running out from the bottom is not right, It may be as simple as letting it all hang out :eek:and carry on winding in the same direction :D
until it starts to wind in at the top(y)
The reasons I say its wrong as it is are,
Any twigs leaves etc will stay on the fabric and get rolled into it, possibly splitting or puncturing the sheet:cry:
Rolling in and out at the top (correct) will cause debris to roll down the sheet and fall off(y)

clearly your talents are under utilised Geo.. .. ;)

the mounting box covers the the top of the roller, wouldn't be possible to wind it over the top..

when winding back in, the edge of the housing box effectively 'sweeps' the blind.. anything big would be swept clean off !! .. Branches, logs, dead squirrels, cats, small birds etc would have no chance..

perhaps the OP saw another make that uses the more advanced Geo design.. ?

photo shows what I mean

Mine looks just like yours Jim. Obviously some differences of opinion but maybe I shouldn't be concerned. I may just contact Thule and ask them. Thanks for the responses guys.

Jim what do you recommend for cleaning as mine is pretty grubby and looks like mould spots on some of the areas?

I just washed using Fairy washing up liquid in a bucket of water and wash with a car wash brush.. then hose off

advice on the Fiamma site

  • Due to the construction of the fabric, most dirt will be only on the surface, and can be easily removed with water and a cloth. Stubborn marks can be removed using a light degreasing detergent, such as washing-up liquid. Please do not use aggressive cleaners and do not use high-pressure washers on your fabric.

Thule sell a PVC cleaner.. but never used it

Response received to my original question from Rose awnings who are a uk distributer of Omnister:

"Morning Robert

If it is a 5002 , underneath the roller

best regards"
