We will be collecting my Daughter and her friend in a couple of weeks from Calais with the intention of visiting the Normandy beaches. We only ever stay in aires, but apparently someone in the van snores and my Daughter wants to stay on campsites and sleep in her tent!
So, can anyone recommend a few nice quiet campsites around Bayeux and Caen, near the coast. We also like cheap!

Agree about Arromanches, the municipal site is a good site also the municipal in Bayeux, a parkland setting and an easy walk into town. If you want to visit Sword Beach, Camping Les Pommiers in Ouistreham about a mile from the ferry is the obvious option. You can walk along the canal side path into Ouistreham, we used it during the D-Day ceremonies in June.
Courseulles sur Mer has the Juno Beach centre, again, the site in town is ok and very close to the beach.

Make sure you go to 'Le Chaos' at Longues Sur Mer and also the Pointe du Hoc:

Also you should definitely aim to spend some time at the American cemetery, it has videos etc and lots of info/displays, well worth spending a good few hours there, but take tissues as you'll need them:

Just got back after almost a month away and 2800 miles.
We tried the above campsite, well, we emailed to reserve a pitch a week before going and got an email reply saying a pitch was reserved for us.
When we got there though, there wasn't one. Don't know what happened, so we went to a municipal site a few miles down the road at Asnelles. Lovely site a few metres from the beach and a short drive from the Aromanches 360 cinema and viewpoint over the beach and mulberry harbour remains.
We also visited the Pegasus Bridge museum ( again) well worth a visit if anyone is in the area.
