Hi,

Does anyone have experience of the niesmann bischoff arto 76e motorhomerHi? We've found a secondhand one which has a layout we want. Being new to motorhomes we're unsure of the reputation of this make. Can anyone advise please?

Also, any points to consider before buying? The vehicle doesn't have satellite tv, an alarm, solar charger or awning. Are these things that are important and if they are, how expensive are they to install.

Thanks

Hi Oriel

We have a Niesmann+Bischoff Flair so that is the big brother to the Arto, build quality is top notch, the body is Aluminium inside and out and a closed cell PU foam core so no wood in the construction. The cab side windows on these vehicles are double glazed glass so it is worth checking that the units are still sealed OK, if not you can fix them yourself if you are brave and handy or the dealer can do them but that option does not come cheap.

There is currently only one dealer for these motorhomes and that is Travelworld in Telford, many owners go back to the factory in Germany for service and repair and as the factory is close to Koblenz it makes a nice trip along the Mosel.
Being A class the winscreen is big and expensive so if you buy it make sure that the insurance covers unlimited glass cost.

What age are you looking at?.

We have had our Arto for six years and still love it. Only problem we have is the quality of the upholstery. The leather has cracked and appears to be some sort of bonded leather. Compared with the leather in our car it is poor quality and after 6 years needs reupholstering.
As said above build quality is excellent.

Ours is 9 years and the leather is as good as new, I know leather is a natural product and can vary so possibly worth checking out.

Our Arto was one of an order imported by Brownhills possibly with different specifications from normal. Brownhills got rid of them to various dealers when they had problems. Maybe that accounts for the poor quality leather

N+B are excellent motorhomes - a premium brand. Part of the Hymer Group and have a very good reputation for build quality.

Many thanks for your replies.

We travelled to Travelworld to view Hymers but we're taken by the N & B ones, though we'd never heard of them before - we're new to motor homes though, so that probably doesn't mean anything. The one we're probably going to buy is one year old and has only done 2.5K miles.. We 'think' it's a good deal but, as I said earlier, it hasn't got an awning, etc. perhaps this isn't a deal breaker though. Are all the models ok to take into cold climes. We hope to go ski-ing.

It has half leather seats so hopefully they won't suffer cracking.

We have just bought a N+B from Travelworld and are awaiting collection next Friday(y) If you are happy with the deal that you have struck and the motorhome is really right for you then that's all that matters,go for it (y) and yes the N+B models are fully winterised.Enjoy.

Hi Oriel

Nice van, I don't think an awning would be a deal breaker as lots of people say they have them and never use them, anyway a retrofit is easy likewise the sat dish if you want one (but not cheap) be careful if you are tempted by a dome as it will quite possibly push you into class 3 on French toll roads, I would say definitely go for solar and MPPT controller but again plenty of specialists that will do this for you.

As for winter use I must quote Ed Milliband "hell yes".

Hi Brian and Jo

Sorry, only just read your reply... How exciting!

You sound like seasoned motorhomers. We're very new to everything in that we only started caravanning 2 years ago when we bought our dog. Each time we've been away we've ended up buying another unit - so we're on our third caravan now. Our plan is to travel europe once my husband is retired in two years time (I was able to retire early). We hadn't intended to buy a motorhome just yet but a close friend died a couple of weeks ago and it brings into perspective that time isn't always on our side. We figure that if we get the MH now we'll be able to take it on winter holidays, so it won't exactly be just sitting there unused, obviously this isn't possible in a caravan.

I guess you're both retired - is there any advice you can give to a couple just starting out?
