We're looking at possibly doing the Newcastle crossing with our two dogs. They allow the dogs to stay in your motorhome overnight and you can go and visit them by asking at Guest Services - or so the website says.
We've taken the dogs on several Scottish Island crossings with Calmac and they've stayed happily asleep in the van but the crossings were 3 hours at the longest. They both have great bladder control and would manage 12 hours no bother. It would be more pleasant for us than driving all the way down from Scotland to the tunnel but we know that the tunnel is more pleasant for the dogs.
Feeling torn ...
Has anyone done this and how did it go?

Thought about it but, whilst our dogs can go for 12 hours, I don't think its a good idea. Also given that the motion in the Southern North Sea can be quite unpleasant, I personally think it could be quite distressing for them even thought they have been used to small boats.
