Hello, I'm Cilla & am hoping to buy a van conversion to share some magical holidays with my disabled 80year old mom Mary. Just a bit nervous of making a very expensive mistake .

Hello Cilla & Mary good luck with your search for a motorhome, the best advice I can give you at the minute is to become a full member £15 a year, for that you will get full access to the site be able to ask as many questions as you need (not just the 5 free ones), you will no doubt save a lot of money and worry through having any information you need at the end of your fingers.

There is so much infomation already on the site & the search facility is good, have a nosey around & look at Jims guide as already mentioned.

If you can, visit a few dealers to get familar with motorhomes in general. There are so many different types it can be a bit daunting at first.

    Good luck in your search:)

    Hi and welcome.
Good advice offered above. Best I can offer is to visit as many Motorhome shows as possible to see all of the possibilities available. If your Mum has any problems getting in or out of the vans steps, they can be eliminated from your selection. Then check out the sleeping arrangements for the same reason. Decide if you like cooking in the van and how practical that would be. Seating, showering and socialising space also are important.
The only thing to beware of, if you buy an older van, would be damp.... this can be very expensive to eradicate. To avoid this, use your nose. If there is any hint of an odd odour then demand a habitation check to show if there is any damp about.
Vans do depreciate but not as much as cars.
The engines used in motorhomes are all able to have a long life if looked after.
Good luck and keep asking questions until you are satisfied that you are not making a mistake. You have already made one good decision by joining 'Fun' with its thousands of experienced members to advise you.
    Alan

Hi Cilla & Cilla's Mom and welcome to the Fun upload_2016-8-19_22-12-19.png

The only mistake you might make is to not give it a go! Rent a van for a few holidays, different types, see what works for you both (somebody on here will know of a rental service appropriate for Mum).

Hi and welcome. There is good advice here, and renting is the best way to make sure it suits your needs.

I know little about panel van conversions (and not much more about other classes), but I would suggest you look at issues such as access, toilet/shower size, etc. It will also help you to refine your expectations. E.G. Are you looking for something just for holiday transport, or something for days out? Are you going to use the vehicle for other purposes as well?

I wish you well with things. You've come to the right place to start

    Hi Cilla and Mom, :pink:
    Good advice from all,
make a list of what you want in a M/H then read and look around, see whats available for your circumstances.
