Hi to everyone,
Having got a dog, post retirement we find we can no longer take the overseas holidays that we used to take, as neither of us wanted to leave her in kennels or with friends etc (she is family now after all). Given we have also retired we wanted to take long and often holidays. So after months of decision making and much head scratching about caravan or motorhome, 2 months ago we took the plunge and bought our first motorhome. Excitedly we went on our first outing for 3 days to the site at Sandringham. We quickly found we had lots of missing 'things' (such as a water filler hose!) and came home with a long list of items to buy. 2 weeks later after getting the missing items we did our second trip spending time at lydford gorge in Devon and Rutland water, with a couple of stops there and back. We ended up with another list but it's much smaller than the first one so we must be getting there! We also ended up buying two electric bikes, along with a dog buggy!
What we are both in agreement with is that it's a fantastic way of vacationing. The motorhome is a home from home and the people we meet are friendly and generally 'nice'. It's a great community. It gives you so much opportunity to travel around.
We are now planning another trip for a few days early next month to visit a Christmas market and also give the bikes a good tryout. I am making a couple of simple modifications to the mh to make it more useful before we use it again. We have also got a passport for the dog and intend to plan a month or so abroad early in the new year.
The learning curve is steep, the mh takes some getting used to when driving, but that is all part of the fun and besides we are in no hurry any more. We are looking forward to our future with 'bertie' (the mh is a Burstner....) and maximising the use of it.
Hopefully I will learn a lot from you guys and maybe in the future when I am more confident I can also contribute.

Hello and welcome Rob and Gill :WelcomeFlag:having a new MH is a steep but enjoyable learning curve. We practised on the drive for the first night ! And still got it wrong on our first campsite trip ( couldn't turn the gas on!! Had a take away then a friendly camper came to assist!!)
You will get loads of help advice and banter from this friendly forum!

Wow, there no stopping you three is there. Happy travels and enjoy the Christmas Market trip. If you are going to Germany and maybe in a city centre, do check if you need an environmental badge. (Google or search this forum for info).

Hi Rob & Gill, welcome to Motorhome Fun, you seem to be getting the hang of it and certainly have the right attitude, use the search if you think of any obscure things like using bio washing liquid (for clothes)in your toilet, which a lot of Motorhomers do also use a spray bottle in the with a solution in when wild camping to save water and also saves the loo filling up to quickly. Join in at one of the fun rally's/meets as it's a great way to meet funsters and exchange ideas.
Most of all now you are a fully paid up Funster, ask as many questions as you need, join in with the general banter when you want you'll make real and virtual friends on the forum good to have you join us.
