Hi folks,

We're renting a camper in southern/central Germany in June and I was hoping for a bit of advice. We've rented in Australia & N.Z. 20+ years ago, but this will be our first time trying it on the continent and I'm sure there will be some surprises.

We've got updated maps for our GPS and Arhie's campsites loaded along with a Stelplatz POI file so we think we're ready. But we still have a few questions:

Can you book ahead at any of the campsites near the big tourist centres? (Munich, Rhine, Mosel etc..)? Do we need to in order to get a powered site?

If we want to stay for a couple of nights in the same spot what's the etiquette for keeping our pitch when we're away for the day in the camper?

Many thanks,

Hi Art

We've never used sites in Germany, only Stelplatz, they aren't bookable, there are plenty of them along the Mosel and throughout Germany .. so you won't be stuck finding a pitch.
When you go out for the day you can't reserve your pitch... just play it by ear, if it's quiet you will have no problem..

On sites you can generally reserve your pitch using a pitch marker, nothing elaborate, just a sign saying 'Pitch In Use' .. or even leave a out couple of chairs or leveling ramps.

A good web site with all the Stelplatz http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.reisemobil-international.de/bordatlas/&ei=iBnKS67xCtmm-Abk0MDtBA&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CA0Q7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbordatlas%26hl%3Den

The Bordatlas is well worth buying once you get to Germany

safe travels
