New here in this forum, not new to the world of motorhomes. We begun four years ago with a VW, now we own a Knaus Traveller.

I m looking here for information for a holiday in the UK. I heard that it isn´t easy to make holiday in your country. (Because motorhomes are often not allowed). So I want to read for myself. And maybe a little chit chat.

Welcome to the FUN site

I don't think you will have problems holidaying in the UK after all we are all doing it:ROFLMAO:

Like anywhere else in the world there may be width restrictions on some roads but to be honest most places are accessible, planing is the key.

Willkomen schneckchen. Wie gehts?

l am sure that you will have a great time in the UK with your motorhome. There are only certain places that do not welcome motorhomes, and they are usually car parks. There are some wonderful camp sites, and some wonderful places to camp free of charge. l am sure there will be some better informed people along soon to tell you more.
l hope you have a great holiday in the UK and you take home some wonderful memories.

Hello

It would be useful to know when you are thinking of coming and where you would like to visit.

Also do you prefer campsites or free / wild camping or do you prefer small motorhome sites.

We have all of these and there are members from all over the UK who should be able to advise you once we have a better idea of your needs.

Many good camp sites, commercial or operated by clubs like the Camping Club or Camping and Caravan Club. Annual membership for the clubs is under £40 a year but you would save that on reduced fees in a two week holiday. Plenty of wonderful places to go too, Lake District, Yorkshire Moors and Dales, Derbyshire Peak District, the south west in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall. No doubt others will suggest less well known spots they like to visit, (or they may not if they want to keep them secret). :winky:

Hi , welcome to the forum

You have heard correctly, the UK is not as motorhome friendly as Germany or France.. we don't have Stelplatz or Aires..
Many carparks have height barriers and those that have access may have signs banning overnight sleeping in vehicles.

Motorway service areas charge for overnight parking, £14 - £20.

Wild camping is not legal without land owners permission, but many disregard or dispute this. Overnight parking in lay-bys is tolerated, provided there are no signs saying otherwise.

On the plus side we have plenty of camp sites and as already mentioned, a great network of 5 van sites called CLs .. ( Certified Locations ) but require membership of the Caravan Club . The Camping and Caravan Club also have a network of 5 van sites called CS. (Certified Sites)

In High season sites are busy and can be expensive .. avoid July and August, the main school holidays of Scotland and England and Wales.

Best weather in Scotland is early summer, May and June.. and no midges

Only my opinion, but the best place for motorhoming is the West Highlands of Scotland.. best scenery and opportunities to find remote wild camping spots.. stay only one or two nights and no one will bother you. On the down side it can be rainy..

As already mentioned, if you provide more information members will be able to advise at a local level ..

Guten Tag
Welcome to the fun little snail, hee hee. Many people from the continent holiday in the UK, it is not as easy as France, but not difficult either. We have a chatroom here where you will be made welcome by French and Dutch members as well as English. There are many "Fun" rallies, Shepton Mallet show is in September and attracts a number of overseas visitors, I'd love to see you there. do post any specific queries regarding holidaying in the UK, you will get many answers very quickly. In the mean time just enjoy the site.
