lol

May even fix it, you never know.

The model of wifi card it is reporting (Atheros AR5007EG) is apparently compatible with WPA2 under Windows Vista.

At least you have a working solution whilst this is being resolved.

even tried looking for new/updated drivers for it but m/s say its got the latest version and no updates are available.

the dongle seems to work ok but is inconvenient.

i also tried a netgear modem/router but couldnt do anything with that at all on any 'puter.

put it back in the box and shoved it in the cupboard.
had nowt but trouble with that one when we bought it a couple of years ago then found new drivers for our old Thomson modem/router and brought that back to life..it died a week ago

this new laptop runs superfast on the belkin......150mbps using 802.11 b/g/n

Aha,

It would appear that the default drivers in the Toshiba build are quite old and may not support WPA or WPA2

There are updated drivers at Link Removed

These are version 7.7.0.288 for Vista 32/64.

Maybe give this a try.

How to check what version you are currently running Link Removed

just realised something.

during the ipconfig /renew it gave a dos message.

no operations can be performed while the media (something ?) isnt available

or something like that followed by the same message for the cable connection

does that mean the data hasnt been renewed ?

OK, that latest one is showing that it has not made any type of connection, not even a local network one.

Did you try to join the wireless network?

Maybe check the driver version next as there is a reported issue with the one that came with the laptop factory build.

Click the link I have put (ending .zip) and it will download the zip file with the drivers in to the laptop.

About 45 Mb and just took 2 minutes or so to download here.

John,

If its slow why not connect using an ethernet cable while you are downloading/updating.

Sorted :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

wrong parameters set in IP4 and IP6.

a simple reset to automaticaly collect IP and DNS address resulted in full internet access at last.

thanks to Stu (400ixl) for all his help.

i owe you more than a beer mate, maybe a crate would be in order.

the new driver utility had a diagnostic facility which pinpointed the problem straight away and explained how to correct it.

now i can sleep easy :roflmto::thumb:

Fantastic.

Glad to have helped. It's great when you can help people, and they help you, that is what the forum spirit is all about.

Had a feeling it was something like that, hence trying to compare those two outputs to see if it was getting the DHCP details and default gateways from the router or if they had been hard fixed.
