Hi
We are totally new to motor homes and decided ( rightly or wrongly) to hire a motor home for 2 weeks and adventure over to France ( not a small trip some may say). If we then decide we love it (which I hope we do) we can then look at purchasing one as an investment for many happy years ahead. We have in the past driven through France on a number of occasions (camping) and hired a car for a month (abroad) and stopped a couple of days here and there, if we liked a place we stayed if we didn't we moved on, bottom line is we loved the freedom of not staying put in one place for our 2 week annual holiday, so a motor home seems to be the logical next steps for us. In additional it allows us to easily bring our dog on our new adventure.

Any tips, thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

:hiya2::welcome3:Enjoy every minute of it and yes you have done right by hiring first if you don't like it or the layout you haven't spent to much on trying it out.

Welcome to FUN. (y)

Like you, we love "moving on" and a MH is so much easier than any other mode of exploration. Our first trip to a camp site allowed us to sit drinking tea whilst we watched a family prepare to "decamp" with a trailer tent identical to one we used to have. They were still busy at it when we rinsed the cups, switched off the gas and drove away - tremendous!

In France (and other European countries) you might wish to experience the freedom offered by aires: usually cheap (even free), no booking and an opportunity to meet like-minded folk.

Enjoy - Gordon

Hi Terry
We are travelling the first 2 weeks in July and aiming to get an hour south of Paris for day one and then make it up as we go along, if we like somewhere we can stay a few days or move on. The freedom of travel is what has drawn us to motor home holidays

Hi Jo & Dave,
Take it easy & relax, avoid Paris & peripherique if you can. best to go towards Rouen or Reims, suggest you get a good satnav which you can put in the size of moho to avoid narrow roads etc & set it to avoid toll roads (peage) the road system is really great over there & you get to see some of the nice towns & villages. Depending on what time you are arriving in France its best to start looking for an aire by 4pm latest, get Link Removed on your phone or http://www.camping-municipal.org , basic sites but good value.
