Hi

First off I'd like to say "Hello" to all the other members. Looking forward to becoming more involved in forum and making some new friends. I have a great Movano van conversion.

I'm based in Norfolk but due to work I'm having to move to a new area, London. This has brought on a heap of problems. One of them is renting. The prices down south are a hell of allot more. This has been on the cards for a while so I have been Full Timing 80% of the time in London for the last year. Now the time has come to go 100%. I have a permeant place to park. I just need help choosing a bigger van. So any advice or deals would be greatly received.

I have a couple in mind at the moment...

I suggest you need to look out for the London Low Emission Zone to ensure that whatever you buy can travel within it.

I have one for sale which is (currently) compliant.

Have you considered the LEZ?

Only Euro 4 spec upwards diesel engines will comply. This will exclude older vans.

Hello Cav,

First off, thank you for your reply and advice. What a beautiful van you have for sale. I only wish I could go that high. Maybe in the future... Would you take £20k cash

Good advice everyone on the LEZ I suppose that excludes older vans as I'm going to be based inside the M25.

Both good vans, but being slightly biased we have the Hymer 584 which is a great van we have had ours 10 years, we find the figuration with the table good it's always available but does not get in the way the long settee is great for lounging in. Would not worry to much about no garage in it as they have ample space under the back bumper lockers for tables chairs Barbie etc.
Re emissions there is a good site nearHampton Court Station that takes long term vehicles, (about 10/15 minute cycle ride along the tow path) and just out side the emission zone. The site name is Apps Court Farm.

Hi Carol

I'm in agreement. I prefer the 584 as its slightly bigger by a few inches. Being over 6' myself the room is important. Also thank you for the Hampton Court site. Where I am now is just inside the zone and takes roughly the same length of Time to get into work.

Puddle duck I wish I could avoid London as well..!! Bloody work

Hi neighbour, the B584 looks the better with lower mileage if genuine.
If like my B544 , although no garage it has loads of through belly lockers in double floor for storage.
LEZ a problem.

Hi Larry.

Yes hello neighbour

The LEZ is a real problem as where I stay at the moment is a couple of hundred yards inside the zone... Typical. I suppose I could always look at having a filter fitted..?

A garage would be handy, but hopefully my Brompton will fit inside one of the lockers.

I've not much else.

very good point completely forgot about that!

None of the ebay vans shown will comply I'm sure!:(

if its a permanent site what about a caravan, cheaper more room and no worries re LEZ

Hi Judge

I know, luckily my van at the moment is compliment. I have thought about a caravan, had one in the past. I may have to have a rethink. Though its going to be my home, which I'd rather be able to just get up and go. I will be staying between Norwich and London and only paying for the nights I'm staying in London.

As you say none of the vans are compliant with LEZ. Which is a right pain.

Hi @Stitch , my B544 03 plate on 2.8jtd gvw 3500kg is lez compliant so worth looking for one at 3500kg.
When I bought mine it was 3900kg but I had to get it downrated (easy) to 3500kg for my licence change. Miro was 2780kg so adequate payload.
Have not looked but I guess >3500kg is the qualifying mark.

Have just checked and that is the case , if below 3500kg ok but a proviso if registered between 2000 and 2002, requires a phone call.

SV Tech downrated mine, took approx two weeks , cost £144 , so a b class Hymer may be possible for you if you took that course.

Larrynwin I could kiss you. That's the sort of info I need. Many, many thanks. I've arranged to go and have a look at the B584 on Tuesday. It will give me time on Monday todo a bit more digging.

Welcome to Fun.
Money would be better spent on a newer van. A DPF will cost £2000-£3000 to fit and will need cleaning every year at a cost of £150-£200, they can't do regenerative cleaning on retro fit filters.

Hi Larry

I'm in that old problem not quiet enough money for a newer van. I'm going to have a look at the reclassification of the weight and see how I get on with that.
Thank you for the offer of coming over to look. I live near Brooke. Sadly I'm working this weekend and only have a short time off before Christmas to start looking. So time is short.

There are previous threads on this forum for more information, a search will bring them up. The process of downrating is easy.
The key before you buy is knowing the ulw or miro to be sure that if you downrate to 3500kg there is adequate payload.
