Update - there has been a delay in the launch of this awning until next year due to the redesign related to the height but hopefully we will finally be able to buy a lightweight, easy to use porch awning at motorhome height in 2017!

Hi Womble, like you I have been waiting for a compact lightweight awning and so followed this thread. I have just emailed SunnCamp for an update and unfortunately, due to 'lack of interest from their retailers', they have decided not to put the 220 Motor awning into production. Real shame - just shows how out of touch retailers can be in this market. You got any other suggestions for a compact awning that would fit an A Class?

We'd be interested too, if you have any suggestions. When we had our Bolero we bought a caravan porch awning from Suncamp which worked well until it started to slide out of the awning rail but a little modification sorted that. We've got an A class Rapido now without a windout awning and our porch awning is too short. We don't miss a wind out awning but would find a lightweight porch awning useful if we could find one that fits.

Unfortunately despite a couple of years of us & our Sunncamp contact trying to get the Swift 220 Motor into production the Sunncamp management team have decided there isn't enough demand! As said before they really don't know the motorhome part of their market This is because they have struggled to achieve sales targets on other motorhome height awnings despite these others being badly designed fussy ones
We have tried to point this gap in the market out to all the awning manufacturers but none want to know...
We have bought, tried then sold on again almost every type of lightweight motorhome awning including driveaways - the Sunncamp Swift 220 & 325 were the closest to what would work for us but just not tall enough. So now after much searching on the web @Sueadegizmo @2spritelyislanders we have decided to opt out of anything attached & now have two of these Link Removed

They pop up in seconds & one is ideal for a table, chairs & airer or two pitched together (not connected but butt together & tops overlapping so work the same way) if extra sleeping or seating space is needed. Not our favourite colour but should be a talking point! Being able to locate them wherever suits best is a bit plus - can use Fiamma awning with these so not either/or anymore

We've done much the same as you and have tried a variety of awnings/utility tents and now take our Quest elite instant awning with us. We attached it to the van with the fling-over straps on a rally recently but we wouldn't do it again because the straps over the top of the van vibrate in the wind and the awning flaps against the van. We'll probably dig out our first utility tent which has stood many a storm and is a bit battered but much lighter, until manufacturers plug the gap in the market

Thanks for the suggestion Wombles. Going to have a think about whether some canny/innovative sewing alterations might be possible to make an existing 220 fit a taller van. I suspect it won't be possible but will let you know if we bodge something together that vaguely works!

We looked at doing that & adding a section on the bottom might help a little but limited by how high the poles go - may be ok for a coachbuilt but unlikely for a taller A Class - plus the angle will make the fit against the motorhome awkward. Another issue is that the pins that fit into the bottom of the poles only have a little adjustment. Sunncamp had to redesign all the panels & especially the roof panel due to the different angle with increased height on the prototype Moto.

Yeah, know what you mean. If it was easy Sunncamp would have done it quite quickly I suppose. I was thinking about extending the length of the roof panel and adding triangular sections either side to maintain the position of the side panels to the van. It assumes that it is possible to sew on to the existing material and ensure it remains strong enough to withstand a bit of weather as well. It's a shame Sunncamp won't make it - it is exactly what we need!
