Today I have had my M/H remapped, a guy was recommended to me and I rang him and he came to my house, spent about 2.5 hours doing the necessary with his kit, everything went well and on a brief test drive afterwards the M/H seemed more lively with more torque, hard to tell until a proper journey is made, until then, judgement is reserved. My M/H supplier recommended him and has had no complaints or bad reports yet, he says he has been remapping for 5 years.
This guy is part of a national chain of remapping specialists, but I think he is self employed, he is trying to enlarge his M/H customer base and would give a discount to Funsters if requested.
I will be using the M/H in two weeks time for a trip to Suffolk, I will report on the remap after the trip if anyone is interested.

Hi, any chance of his name and number, anyone who gives a funsters discount has got to be OK. :winky: Because word travels fast on here, and you can get a bad name quicker than a good one. :roflmto:

We are thinking about getting ours done, but waiting to see how much change we have left after we have been to Vanbitz and got our funsters discount. :ROFLMAO: Bob.

I'm interested, test drove an autotrail 2.8 today which felt a bit flat, needed to be revved to get anywhere.

Apparently his normal price is £350, not the cheapest he admits, but he said he would do Funsters for £299, same as he a charged me. He told me some stories he'd learned over the years about tuning boxes, and even other remap firms, told me why clutches get burned out after remaps as well, no names, no finger pointing, assured me I would not have any problems.
I am reluctant to fully recommend until I have had a chance of a good run, I am nothi ng to do with this person or this firm, so it would be purely my opinion anyway.

I took the M/H out today for a test to see how the performance has altered since the remap. Initial acceleration is slightly better from rest, this is done deliberately to limit stress on the clutch so I was told, this could be the cause of others having wrecked clutches after remapping too much torque too soon.
Acceleration through the gears is better, but not massively so, anybody expecting tyre shredding performance would be disappointed. The real benefits could be felt through the higher gears, especially 4th 5th and 6th, speeds seemed much easier to maintain on a whiff of throttle, I did say to Oliver that I wanted a small increase in torque and maybe a few more mpg would be nice, that is what I've got, some people might be disappointed with the results I achieved, (no power figures available, 130 bhp before, so not slow), but I will reserve final judgement after climbing some hills or motorway inclines, something we seem to be short of in sweltering Norfolk.
(PS, test was conducted with 3/4 tank fuel, 1/3 tank water, no grey water, all other items usually carried were present.)

Remapping is perfectly legal, but you should inform your insurance company as it's classed as a modification, I did and had to pay a £15 fee for paperwork.

Few quick points after reading this..

The old 2.8jtd Fiat, re-map on mine made a great difference on pulling powers. MPG remained the same. Had it on for almost 5 years no problems.

Insurance, I was with Safeguard and told them of the re-map, they just added it as a modification. No charges.

My local remap guy does it for £200, so I guess people need to shop around.

Not had a remap done yet on my 2.3 euro 5 engine, dont like to mess as its still fairly newish...

Remap update

Following our recent Uk trip, I can definately say that the remap was a success, very definately easier to drive, less gearchanging, and 3 real time fill ups noting the mileage , I reckon about 2-3 mpg more, and bearing in mind we had a 14kg towbar mounted bike carrier and 2 electric bikes always being carried, I would say it was a result, well happy. :thumb:

I paid Celtic Tuning £350 for a remap ::bigsmile: best money I ever spent :thumb:
Everything improved-acceleration,hill climbing (French alpes and Pyrenees) fuel consumption.3yrs later clutch is still ok.

has anyone had a remap on a 2.3 fiat new shape can report good or baqd results
?

Just had my 2.3 Ducato new shape on an Autotrail Cheyenne done. Initial findings are that there certainly is more torque available. By example I can maintain 50+ mph uphill in cruise where previously I would need to change down. Fuel consumption - a little difficult to comment over such a short period but I'd say either the same (27 mpg) or slight improvement.

Off to Spain and Portugal on the 30th August for 2 months - so I really will get a better idea then.

Cost from a local franchisee was £245, down from £300 as advertised on a well known website.

Hi Mitzimad, not sure about remapping results for new euro 5, but my 2.3 2008 was remapped three years ago and it is great! Fuel consumption improved from average of 29mpg to 34.7mpg. Much, much easier to drive with better acceleration and easier to hold a speed on inclines.
With the cost and the small savings on fuel, it may not make economic sense over small mileages, however, based on my experience, the motorhome is so much more driveable.:thumb:

Does re-mapping help with power lower in the gear? Does anyone know please?

Mine was remapped to increase torque , but was not really noticeable until 3rd gear upwards, this is so that the strain on the transmission/clutch is not increased .

so remapping, does the age of the vehicle matter?
If you have a mechanical injector pump (older engines with pump at front of engine and steel pipes to each cylinder) then it cant be remapped.

Remapping alters the parameters of the electronic 'brain' controlling injector timing, length of injection period and injector rail pressure etc.
