Just in case some of you missed the good news. I posted this on the Morocco Thread "The new law (All Commercial Vehicles over 7.5t must use the Auto routes to the nearest exit to their delivery point), it has been in force for about a month (its really quiet at my place:thumb:) the police will be Enforcing this in January," So Enjoy the N/Rs its shorter and cheaper and all the crazy HGVs will be on the A/Routes Bonne Route:france:

Sounds good but is this the thin end of the wedge before they reduce it to 3500k which is less than a lot of motorhomes:Smile:

What may I ask will happen to all my favourite eateries. How will truck drivers get to Les Routiers at meal times. What do convoi exceptionel do now as they cannot get through the paeage and are banned from the autoroute.

As long as they keep it to commercials that would be fine as it would not include Motorhomes.

Err, where are they going to park all these HGVs up each night on the autoroute. Hundreds of thousands of HGVs park up for the night and over the weekend on the RN. Sounds like the autoroute is gona be gridlocked, or someone has got it wrong.

The French authorities.

Is this how they are going to get out of their rescission by making all the trucks pay tolls?

This is the same country that brought in compulsory Alcotest kits to be carried in vehicles.

Do you think all Les Routiers will just close down without a peep.

Do you think all Haulage companies will agree to pay excessive Peage fees which will also have and adverse effect on their economy.

Many HGV already use the Peage as it makes sense on economy of time and driving hours. Those who have more local routes will just plan their deliveries and pick ups accordingly so as to avoid excessive costs.....

.... and remember a heck of a lot of Autoroutes are not Peage so have no tolls anyway so these will continue to be used as normal.

Sorry to disillusion you chaps, but if you think about it for maybe 2 minutes, it cannot be done.
1) Les Routier is one of the biggest unions in Europe, if not the world. No way would they allow this to happen.
2) There are thousands of Les Routier restaurants in France, which would close down.
3) There are not enough parking spaces to accommodate HGVs overnight on the autoroute now.
4) Convoi Exceptionel (wide loads) are not allowed on the autoroute, so have to use the RN.
5) Wide loads cannot get through the paeage.
6) The autoroute is privately owned, not government, so any monies would not go into the government coffers.
7) Nothing of this has been posted on any of the European forums, other than a few RNs have had weight restrictions put on them. Am sure something would have been posted regarding any laws of this magnitude.

Convoi exceptionels, If they have a height problem do what they always do, "notify the authorities in each region they intend traveling through and use Pilot vehicles. Those that are under the restricted height limit will have to use the Autoroute, they have been altering the peages to accommodate them.
We are local and on Aquitaine 33 plates so we wont be bothered much when we are Humping our stuff around locally.

But often mega annoying as the speed limit is changing 50/70/90 every few yards.

That is not good for economy or relaxed driving.

Depends on your van. I find the N roads much more economical on fuel, as the most economical speed for my motorhome is 30-40mph owing to its brick like shape.
Also the N roads are usually a shorter route and they have more interest, and in addition the aires (you can stay at) are usually on the less major roads so somewhere to stop too. If that wasn't enough, no tolls either.

Yes thats the one, then they delayed the time of implementation because they couldnt supply them (twice) since then it appears they have dropped the whole idea:RollEyes:

Dont worry about how the French run their economy, they are the most protectionist people I know, (please don't get me on that subject). In- fact you should be thinking more about charging foreign vehicles entering the UK a fee per- mile-per -class of vehicle, that should sort your roads out a bit:winky:

We had a thriving car industry and coal mines but we knew how to strike, oh yes.
We weren't as refined as the French at striking and winning though.

I live by the N524 between Langon 33 and Bazas, both these Towns have Auto Route exits, until about 2months ago it was a 24hr HGV competition of belligerence and inconsideration to other road users by "Knights of The Road" who, because they have a superior License, think its cool to bare down on some old biddy who has the audacity to pull out in front of them, with Horns Blaring;I saw this often, and yes I do have HGV License (sorry about the Rant, where was I) Since the 7.5t max signs were put up at the Langon and Bazas ends of my N524 its gone eerily quiet:Eeek:This road has never had a weight or a height restriction and its a part of the main convoy exceptional artery from the north to the south of France, The Air Bus 380 comes past twice a month,(in sections of course Fantastic to watch, I have vidio'd it,) So if my section of this artery is restricted, then logically it all must be :restmycase:
