Hi all, I joined last night after reading all the great information about aire's in France. We have a Motor home 8 yrs and love France but this year I'd like something different then a campsite holiday, I am a mother of 6 (3 girls, 3 boys, the eldest two are married) , i have 2 grandsons and another grand baby due in November. I am a foster-mother so we will be travelling with 2 children aged 9 and 13(help). I'm not as old as i sound I haven't quite yet hit the half century, married to my very patient husband 27 yrs. I have a question when an aire has no electricity can anyone recommend what they do for TV and DVD or charging Nintendo's. Personally a good book does me especially if it comes with a cool glass of wine, but to keep my kids sane a DVD before bedtime with crisps and dip and a few sweets is a big part of their holiday.
Loved reading all your information about aire's in France someday in my dreams I have a gap year planned (that's what its called here in Ireland anyway by the young people they finish college and go off for a gap year) and in my gap year I get on the ferry not knowing where I will end up and if I don't like one place I will find another that I do. Sorry got side-tracked what do you do about electricity if the aire doesn't have any.
:thanks2:

Hi, Use an inverter (converts 12 volt to 240volt) available from most electrical stores i.e. maplins etc

Or a 12v TV/DVD which you can pick up quite cheaply, though not as cheap as an inverter, though bear in mind an inverter needs quite thick 12v wires if it is more than 150w or so.

Hi LOLO .. welcome to MHFun....
If you are touring in the summer in France a Solar Panel 100 to 120watt and two 110ah batteries will should give you all the power you need to run the items you mentioned...
To convert to 230/240v most use a inverter...
Although they do use quite a bit of your battery power...
Some of the items you mentioned may even run on 12v or 19v then all you need is a small step up transformer using less power than a small inverter....
You will have to put more information on the forum look at the items you would like to run while away ..look underneath for the technical details ...put them on here then ask what is required to run them.
Most basic Aires with a borne there is normally 1 electric point...this will cost you 2 euros or a Jetton token for one to two hours could be longer ...these are mainly to top up /charge your battery.
BUT there are lots of Aires where the electric in with your price for the night stop on all the 24 hours
But there are lots of that have many electric points.

Hi LOLO
Get yourself an Aires book.....try Vicarious books or Amazon on the internet...the book "All the Aires in France" is a good book, it is in English it is a good start..(no it does not contain all the Aires in France it is just the book title)...there are many French Aires books..and also there are many that you can search on the internet e.g. campingcars info.

look to see what is on offer on the Aire...e.g....drinking water, drop off points for the toilette cassette, and grey water, electric, cost, are you next or near the sea, are you at the side of a canal, lake, woods, fields, in a town or village is the place historical....all this will help you.

Also look at my link below "picasa photos"..click on the link/... they are all on aires in France there are hundreds of photos for you to look at... just click on one photo and you will find many others to look at ..come out and click on another photo to see the rest... you can make the photo full screen...enjoy..we only do Aires in France.

Hope all this helps you Mel
