One of our external 250gb hard drives has just 'died' so I need to replace it - anyone know where I can get another cheapish - need min 250gb but more would be good too!

Probably shopping around on eBay will be cheapest, unless there's a huge rush to get the new one.

I may be stating the obvious but get one that at least matches the current version of USB you have on your computer, otherwise it may run slower than it needs to.

Yup, we've got USB 2 (which is the highest our machines will run anyway) so no need for anything better but certainly nothing slower ... our friend just bought himself a large USB stick which he thought was a great price ... but it's a USB 1!

@MinxyGirl Might be worth looking at an SSD to insert in the usb drive case which you already have? Alyhough more expensive than a hard drive they are certainly more durable :xThumb:

As an alternative to USB, why not check NAS drives which can be attached by Ethernet cable to your router?

I recent years I've bought NAS drives from Maplins and USB drives from both Maplins and Currys PC World. They often have offers on.

I bought a 1TB from Argos reduced from 49.99 to 44.99. It's a neat wee slim one.
