in desperation a shaped steel plate machine screwed onto the 'boss' may work

use a bit of pipe the same diameter and cut the slots to suit.

Looks like the end is a separate peice held with a pin or maybe an Allen screw. So P John's idea could work if you can make a similar bit and replace the end part.

Edit: Sorry it was Welsh winger's idea
