How long have you left it on charge?

Sometimes if they get really flat they take a while.

Plug it in to the mains charger, not your PC, and leave it a long time - overnight if necessary - and it should kick start again.

Or change the battery, most are available on Ebay, and Youtube shows you how to swap them over.

Try another USB cable first, just in case.

Is there a light that comes on to show it's charging, and if so, is it working?

If the battery's removable, test the voltage with a multimeter and see what you get. Try charging it for a few hours then re-test it. No change? Time for a new battery.

Is it Android? They vary but try holding the volume up button down as you plug the cable in, if that doesn't work try the volume down button.

    What model is it?

One of ours did the same
Tried all the advice on the net re volume buttons, leads etc. Etc. Without success so then thought I'd try to back it up to pc to try & save the data & whilst trying that it suddenly started charging & has worked fine ever since.

Connect it to a wall charger instead of computer.
Wall charger will have a higher charge current than the usb on a computer.

You dont say what tablet it is but i had two kindles fail to charge...only a few weeks old and both exchanged by amazon.

    Also...
It can sometimes take a little charging before a phone / tablet will reboot once the battery has completely discharged.
Charge it via a proper charger for a couple of hours, then try and fire it up.

When you plug it in make sure you do it with your left hand and try to cross your toes at the same time ...... That seems to work....(y)

We have a Samsung Tab 4 8" - apparently a common issue is if the battery is left to run down it wont charge or display - it has happened to me twice - the fix is interesting - and I have done it - you need to carefully take the screen out of the frame and remove the battery connector - then reconnect the battery and out the screen in and recharge it - strange but true....

Some others suggest that you plug the charger in, then hold volume up and down buttons down at same time for about 10 seconds and release after. Your boot up screen should come on and your battery should be low. Turn your device off and let it charge normally.

We had trouble with a Samsung Note.
Not holding charge. Wouldn't go past start up screen.
I contacted Samsung and they gave a two year guarantee and this was 21 months old. They sent me a postage bag and repaired it and fitted a new battery all f.o.c.
    Excellent service.

Just a thought - have you tried putting it into a warm place such as an airing cupboard etc to gently warm it up ... might help the battery 'want' to charge up.
