Hi

We're looking at sites in Portugal for Dec / Jan and have come across Municipal de Monte Gordo - on the Algarve but very close to the Spanish border.

We've looked at it on Google Earth and it's very close to the beach. Doesn't have a lot of facilities so may be quieter than the average "brits abroad" sites!

Has anyone been there - would love to hear your thoughts on it! ::bigsmile:

Hi Again,

Not been there for about ten years, never actually stayed but checked it out.

Like the rest of the sites on the Algarve it will be very crowded in the winter months. It was/is a very sandy site and this could be a problem with large m/homes.

I'm afraid I've not been much help maybe somebody has visited recently and can give you some up to date info.

Been there a couple of times but not in the motorhome.
There have always been loads of motorhomes parked on the sea front carparks and along to the west where you can get down to secluded beach bars where there is usually plenty of room to park.
There are miles of beaches and if you like beach walking you will ove it!
The peple are very friendly and there are some good bars. It is fairly small and we liked it very much and we plan to return with 'The Van' one day.

Monte Gordo

We were there just 3 weeks ago and spent a week there, it was the 4th time in the past 4 years we have been there.
It is cheap in winter about 5 euros a night but sadly a bit run down, the toilet blocks need knocking down and replacing there is a shortage of decent available water taps that you can get at with a motorhome and the biggest problem is finding a spot hard enough to park on as most of the area is soft sand, we helped push 4 vans out the week we were there.
The area around is very nice, Monte Gordo is a pleasant place with a nice beach and some good resteraunts and bars, just a short ride away is Villa Real whch is worth a visit. Hope this helps if you want any more info then please ask.

We stayed at the Adam & Eve Motorhome free site about 1 mile from Monte gordo .It was ok no water or cassette emptying though we went up to Castro Marim, showers water toilets and wash stands there, lady charges about 2 euro.To get to Adam & Eve you turn off at the BP filling station and down to the beach.Space for a lot of vans there.quite busy.

Plenty of room on the campismo at Monte Gordo - just be careful of where you pitch as the sand is quite deep!

We're here until Friday then heading back into Spain first to El Rocio then probably Conil De La Frontera for about a month.

Weather changeable - drizzly and grey today but not too cold. Had plenty of wall to wall sunshine days so not complaining!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Campsite here very basic but quiet. Close to a gorgeous beach that goes on forever!

Hi Marie & Rex

Glad to hear you got to Monte Gordo & have enjoyed the weather & the beach.

Marion & I were interested to read you are heading for Conil soon. That's where we are now, until about 20th Feb. Although we may stay another week as there is a big Flamenca dance festival in Seville the next week, and the local Flamenca here is really good.

We've had a few odd days of heavy rain, & some strong winds, but generally the weather is warm and the skies are blue. And there is a great beach here, too!

Do call in & see us if you get to Conil - we'll put the kettle on / break out the Rioja.

Cheers

Hi plans have changed a bit. Daughter, husband and grandson are flying down to Faro to stay with us for a few days, so we need a proper site, going to see if we can get on Orbitur Quarteria, looks as if it might be a bit lively, which will suit them.

Hi Alan no its number 1 daughter who's flying down to faro with family, they live just up the road from us, going from Stanstead, its no2 who's at Lisbon. We will pick her up on the way home.

According to tomtom and google, getting to Faro via Lisbon is almost the shortest route, so we may go past on our way down anyway.

Been recommended to Albuferia by another poster so may try there if we can't get on Quarteria.

Thanks Olley

Hi

Had a change of plan as Conil hasn't got any double pitches free for Ray and Joan so we're planning on going to El Puerto De Santa Maria near Cadiz tomorrow ( Tuesday ). Hope to be around for the festival at the beginning of February. Still trying to find some Flamenco.

In El Rocio at the moment - been here since Friday - nice site in a VERY interesting village. No proper roads in village - all sand - no road markings or signs! Plenty of horses and carriages. Hitching posts outside every house and bar! Has to be seen to be believed!:ROFLMAO:
Campsite good - good bar / restaurant - facilties very clean - free hot water / showers. Wifi been down since we arrived but managed to get on tonight.

Weather been gorgeous today - really HOT in the sun - hope it's going to stay that way for a while!:ROFLMAO:

Bruce and Marion - maybe we'll meet up again somewhere along the way - keep the Rioja cool!:thumb::ROFLMAO:
