Type 2 cannot become type 1.

Type 2 is the inability for the body to use the insulin produced by the pancreas.
It may also be a lower production than needed but it is produced nonetheless.
Tablets control blood glucose levels which would be the role of the insulin if it could be absorbed or was in sufficient quantity

Type 1 is a total lack of insulin production.
Type 1 can only be 'caught' (for a better word) by complete failure of the pancreas to produce any insulin.....the reason it must be injected.

Its amazing what you learn being diabetic (T2)

Sorry that's utter rubbish.

I was diagnosed 40 years ago and was put onto a control regime that meant monitoring closely what I ate and taking tablets.

My Pancras was producing some insulin at that time but as time wore on it produced less and less until it stopped altogether.

So it was onto insulin after 7 years of tablets.

It's a balancing act as you will know ...

Not arguing Charlie, I'm not a doctor....but I do listen to my doctor and specialist diabetic nurse and as they are trained I believe what they tell me.

Think we should leave it at that mate. (y)

Why because you are wrong ?

A person who is diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic has as you describe above a Pancras that has to some degree stopped producing the insulin a fully working one does.
So the symptoms develop which are usually an unrelenting thirst. Loss of weight and lethargy..
Once diagnosed this partially failed or failing pancreas can be made to work by the taking of tablets. Control is further aided by diet. Control is monitored by testing the blood . A type 2 would have to test anywhere near as much as a Type 2.

The tablets stimulate the pancreas and help it to produce the insulin a health one would. Tablets cannot control glucose once it's in the bloodstream . Only injecting insulin can do this.

A person can remain type 2 for the rest of their lives and if you my friend are type 2 I hope you never find yourself type 1

What can and often does happen and indeed happened to me is that my pancreas continued down hill. To the point where is produces no insulin at all.

It worked fine for 7 years with the help of tablets but then it failed so I became type 1

Therefore I am now classed as Type 1 .

How I wish you were right ! I have been injecting insulin for the past 33 years and I would love to have been lucky enough to have remained on tablets..

Here's one for you to consider.
My som was diagnosed type 2 six years ago...

He was put on tablets and control was pretty good. I felt like absolute s hit and blamed it all on myself thinking it was passed down from me... There is No previous history of diabetes in our family before me.
just one year ago my sons control was so good they took him off medication altogether ... Now he has been given the all clear !!! This is extraordinary and almost unheard of and I am chuffed to far King bits !! I cannot tell you how happy it's made me..

But sadly mate you are wrong. Type 2 can and very very often does develop into type 1..

A Woosh bang
My question Jim......

Had you not been in that 'dark place' for a period of your life and had lead an 'acceptably normal' social drinking life, would you still be asking the same question ?

why not ?

like Charlie I couldn't care less how anyone uses alcohol .. it's become the acceptable drug of choice for millions.. it's been 'normalised' to the point it is now part of the weekly shop... like buying bread and milk.. it's sold alongside groceries..

so who am I to disagree or challenge what drug you or anyone else uses.. be it alcohol, heroin, cocaine, or whatever.. the question is surely valid no matter my history..

and remember, it was the OP who posed the question..not me..

Motorhome Fun less fun with the new alcohol recommendations?

implying that if the new recommendations were followed it would be less fun...

.. ie .. less alcohol = less fun.. more alcohol = more fun..

I was just teasing with the question, meant in fun. But you're welcome to draw your own conclusion.

All fireworks on Fun have no labels, so you light one and never know if it's a BFG mega explosion or a little sparkler. 4 pages, here just a sparkler.

As a general rule, it seems after the first few pages, it's locked horns time!
